Pete[/quote] I think that would be an open regionals. I think those 4 choices are still sufficient. I think a cut will make some folks hesitant to go. It will not be all that worth it to drive 7 hours, and not fly the whole contest.

I hear ya but you would go and you would make the cut and if for what ever reason you did not make the cut you would stay and help ,,,,,,,,, and most of the guys I fly with would do the same ,,,,, some might go home early and maybe a few would not go at all but I think most would go .

Thats right, Pride. Whats the difference of shutting the doors to only 10 pilots from the very beginning? This way, everybody is given the opportunity...some will risk it, others wont. They will only have themselves to be mad at for not going to 'try' and make the cut. All in all, your still going to have at 'minimum' 10 pilots show up for the quailifier. just a thought - may work, may not - but just a thought.

Good point Joe. It worked at Nats.
The regionals will still have to be ran well, like nats. Line bosses and such.

This sure is an interesting exchange of ideas. I haven't exactly heard from anyone in favor of the bonus points, but i do think they have some merit. In my opinion, they give a guy that goes to the larger contests and may finish 5th through 10th out of 20 pilots the same opportunity as a guy that goes to smaller contests and finishes say 3rd out of 5 pilots. This is my first year flying so i don't have the same perspective as some of the more seasoned IMAC pilots, but isn't that what the bonus point system was supposed to do? Level the playing field. Without the bonus point system, wouldn't pilots be tempted to travel to the small contests and avoid the larger ones? (more expense for the south Florida Folks)

![]() Masters did it.....Nats does it. This turns it into a pilot contest and not an attendance contest. Sure, give a plaque for points....give a plaque for Mr. Congeniality.....give a plaque for "who makes the best fried bread"....but give the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies to the best three flyers in the SE. Jim's suggestions: I don't have a problem with a "protest period". It does take the suprise out of tight races....and there are very few races that would end up in protest so I'm not sure it's worth it. Posting raw scores? Don't think I'm in favor of that. I think we already have judges that are not secure enough in there own abilities and if they see raw scores higher or lower than they typically give, they'll adjust their scores so they "look" like they're as good a judge as the next guy. We know there are some who are "knolegable judges" and some "not so knowlegable judges". That's always going to be the case and since we have judges schools it IS getting better. But, it will never be perfect. I just want a judge that's consistant. Judge all competitors on a level playing field. Don't change your point system just because you saw the raw scores Fred gave me!

Thanks Ron,
We do need to consider all aspects. I mainly view life through 'pilot's' perspective and feel that the pilot/competitor should be able to view maneuver by maneuver scores, openly, rather than have it considered "bad-form" if you want to know what someone scored on a particular maneuver. Posting raw scores is what is done at the F3A WC. However, it may not be a good local decision. I think if you framed a poll question like: "Would you want to see raw scores posted" lots of people would say yes. If you framed it: "Would posting raw scores have a positive or negative impact on judging" the opinions would vary. What do the rest of you think? To post raw's and take the discussion public versus "behind the tent", or leave the raws unposted in order to not risk influencing judging further? Thanks, Jim

I agree with Rocket Ron,, I like the qualifying idea,, but like I said I don't think in many cases you will have more than 10-12 come to it per class anyway depending on the location,, heck even have qualiflying the first day , but let in 12 pilots per class instead of 10, just a thought,, instead of "championship" you could name it the SOUTHEAST REGIONAL MASTERS,, has a good ring to it,, LOL

Let's not reinvent the wheel here. Its the regional championships. The new scoring program by Dave smith shows the pilots raw scores. The only problem is that not many people know how to set the program up to run off a local webserver so you can check the scores with your own lap top. This is something that i do at my contest and works extremely well and was well received by all the competitors. As we evolve and Imac evolves these thing will become more prevalent. tony |
