Default VIDEO; Extreme Flight 88inch Yak 54

Hello guys, it was long way but im finally here, hucking my first serious gasser!!!

Here is video (50mb);
http://www.pauzuolis-rc.com/Videos/E...lightYAK54.wmv

And here is story;
I fly RC for more than 12 year, more than half of my life now , and since i saw 2002 toc videos, i knew i have to fly these big planes one day. And here this day come, naturally 88inch is not 35 ore 40 percent bird, but everything will come in time

Last year i join Extreme Flight (Freestyle-RC) team, and since then im flying EF planes, probably no need to talk here about quality and performance of EF planes. One thing i have to say im very happy to see this company grow and building bigger and better planes, because of this, i will be able to participate in some top freestyle competitions like WAG, EXFC!!!

Besides EF im very happy to use one more top company product, Desert Aircraft DA-50 work like switz clock, engine ussualy start from first ore second flip! Affter Extrafun/3W24i problems i had DA50 is like magic, specialy with ES composites pipe, affter brake in i feel it getting better.

Ok more about plane and equipment i use;
Plane; Extreme Flight 88Inch Yak 54 (red/white cs)
Engine; DA-50r./DA ignition
Powerbox; Emcotec Mini DSPI 6 / Flight power EVO LITE v2 1600mah 2s packs x 2
Emcotec DSPI ignition switch Micro RCS / Flight Power Evo lite V2 2100mah.
Tunned pipe; ES composites ES50G. (only 115g!!!)
Fueling system, Jersey modeller RHP-R 2.5gal
Radio; JR9V2
Servos; Hitec 5955 all around except thrt/ with long SWB servo arms.
Prop; Xoar 23x8 , going to change to Vess.

Plane;
I think only EF planes are much bigger than it should be for engine size, 88inch yak is not exception, simply HUGE fuselage, remind 35 percent Yak more than 50cc....
One even better thing than size feeling is flying characterystics, man it is nothing else than a big shockflyer, i was surprised how close Yak fly to my indoor AM planes!!!

There is MANY good building threads on net for this wonderfull plane, so i will not go in to small details, only little latter i will share few pictures; way from box to air and small madifications i made.

And last but not least i would like to say big thank you for people, that help me dream come true!

Chris and Daniel from Extreme Flight/Freestyle-RC
Dean Kraus from Jersey Modeler.
Biff and All Flight Power crew.
Robert and Kathrin from Emcotec.
Ed from ES composites.
Lee from Cheif Aircraft.
My dad.

Jens Van Dorpe and Rick (k8svrick) for advices and help in assembly!

Now engine brake in is over, and its time for more serious hucking! I will share hot videos with you soon!!! NOW IM HAPPY

Congrats Donatas! Nothing flies quite like a big airplane. Just wait till you get your hands on a 40%...

RJ thx man! Im looking forward for this! Till then i have to solve some questions, what servos are best for 3m planes? I hear Hitec 5955 have very good gears, but i find that they are not very good for precision...maybe new 7955 will be better? What about JR, its sure have best quality servos in mid power range, but what about 25kg servos? I hear JR/Graupner gears are not so good for long flying?

The three best choices are probably the 7955, the JR 8611/8711, or Futaba 9156. The Hitecs as you say aren't the most precise, but still pretty good and certainly widely used. I haven't tried the new 7955's yet. The 8611's and 8711's are popular, but I have heard bad things about their gear wear. The Futaba 9156's are reputed to have more power than the 8611's and 5955's, not too sure about gear wear. Short of starting a brand war, maybe some guys can chime in about them.

Heh heh. That poor Yak....got some serious punishment thrown its way. If that doesn't show what this Yak is capable of nothing will.

Nice flying man.

RJ, thx for opinion about servos, don't wan't start brand war here, just looking for opinion and good advices.
If i had to buy servos right now, it probably would be Hitec 7955 , since i will fly more freestyle and 3d instead of pattern (for this i have F3A). Will see mabybe something will change till date when i get my first 3m plane. What servos you use in your planes right now?

One more q about Hitec servos, does hitec programer make reall difference, that you can feel in air?

Cap, Joe thx guys! Next videos will be more interesting and hopefully with onboard video and showing low 3d with no storm clouds Both songs ussed in videos are from Matallica, first call "One" second "Fuel".

Also good info for all EF yak builder, building/setup review, that i found very helpfull;

The 7955's should do well for you. Right now in my 102" Yak I have a mix of Hitec 5945's (badly lacking torque) and 5955's. They were pretty sloppy before, but I reprogrammed them to the tightest possible deadband... HUGE difference. Turned a sloppy plane into a pretty convincing pattern plane. Definitely worth it on the 5955's. The 7955's may come pre-set for their tightest deadband, I'm not too sure.

BTW, I had the opportunity to fly an 88" EF Yak twice a couple weekends ago at a fly-in, and it was love at first flight. That's a really sweet airplane. If I ever have time/funds to put together a 50cc airplane, that will be it. Feels and looks like a much bigger airplane in the air, yet will 3D like a foamy. Love it!

Donatas,

Awesome as usual. Why is it taking so long for someone to give you a 110" Yak and DA100 on ES pipes? It's obvious you're going to kick peoples ass with a 35%. I wouldn;t even bother going 40% if you got your hands on a 110".

As for servos, go with the HITEC 7955. Nothing like the titanium gears for for durability. You need 8 for the 110"; 2 for each aileron, 2 for rudder (Iknow you like a strong rudder), 1 for each elevator. Also seen some 8711 with weird dead band wag (wagged back and forth on ground) at my field so I am staying away from them. Just my personal experience. The programmer has a lot of functionality and means you can match all your servos (deadband not always identical from factory).

Programmable Features Include
  • Reset to factory default
  • End and center points
  • Direction of Rotation
  • Dead Band Width
  • Failsafe Point
  • Speed (reduction only)
New G2 Servo Features
  • Overload Protection
  • Resolution Mode Setting

Chris Maier said he actually slightly prefers his 110" EF Yak to his big 3W Yak. He's got a 4-banger so his plane flies a bit heavier than normal.

The programmer is very useful for matching servos when ganged together on a surface. If there is only one servo per surface, then the only value of the programmer is being able to set deadband, which is as narrow as possible from the factory, I believe.

Awesome video, too.

Not on my servos. They all came set to a notch higher than the tightest deadband. BIG difference in precision between the two.

I just picked up some 7955's and the programmer last night, mine were the same way. Set to 1.

So Donatas, are you getting servos ready for a new 123" EF Extra perhaps?
