Here's the latest scoop on the 123" Extra. I have received my DA170 and pipes and am putting the finishing touches on what should be the final production version of the Extra. We have spent well over a year in design, flight testing and refinement. 4 initial prototypes were built and given to top pilots in the US and Europe for evaluation and strength testing. Much was learned during this phase of development and changes were made. New prototypes have been built and tested and now we are on what should be the final version. I will display this plane at Toledo and immediatley upon our return from the show we will put 100 flights on this airframe in very short order as a final test of airframe strength. If all goes as planned production will begin immediately. In my best estimate I feel we should receive the first shipment around late June or July.
I simply will not rush getting this plane to market. It must be as close to perfect as a mass produced ARF can be or it will not be released. It amazes me when I see all these companies throwing 40% ARFS out onto the market with little or no testing, development or refining. This is just not the way we work.
We will offer multiple color schemes for this aircraft. It will feature pocket hinges, carbon fiber main gear and tailwheel assembly, carbon fiber wing and stab tube, titanium turnbuckle pushrods, Dubro ball links, Pilot X and instrument panel and a host of other unigue features.
This aircraft is in no part affiliated with TOC1/SD/PILOT or any other company. As with every one of our releases this plane was designed in house with our team of CAD engineers and prototype development team. This small group of people is our strongest asset and we have amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience which is transferred into each new design. We have no need or desire to copy from the "copiers".
I take each new design very seriously, but this one is really special to me. I really appreciate eveyone's interest and patience as we work to make this plane the best it can be.

Hey Chris, Glad to hear that you will have multiple color schemes. I took that to mean that you'll have more than the RWB and YB??? I really think that having at least one more would really help! You know best.
Somday I hope to have one, but right now, I'm working on my 50cc. Thanks Chris for making such awesome planes! Take your time, and I'm sure that you'll have the best ARF in it's class!
