A bit about power and competition flying:

depends on the DBA youre allowed to fly and of the weather conditions and level over ground -and the plane itself -in this case an "air friendly" Extra Cowl -not a Yak with such a heavy breaking cowl.

If you have to go with a 3 Blade the 170 might be enough without pipes, just with good cans -even if the weather is getting really hot at accurate level over ground.

In higher area in hot weather conditions a piped 170 with a 3 Blade would be the best compromise -between loudness, power and constant speed.

Or piped on a 2 Blade for freestyle.

with a 150 on pipes and a 3Blade -forget it on hot weather... two blade -you have to fly very much RPM to have the power you need -with the noise level...
If you then have to fly on hih places (for Ex. Tas)... there was a reason the 170 was made.

Almost every competition pilots i know fly the piped 170 or the DA 200 4-Cycle (less vibrations).

ps.: if anybody(for ex. the pilot was named) could answer me to the competition flying questions on page 60 -would be great.

Regards,

Chris

Could you add a post number, I dont have but 19 pages @ 40 posts a page.

Edit: found it. I cant answer that since I'm not lucky enough to have flown the good proto or the lesser protos either lol.

IS anybody able to measure if the 200 would fit under the cowl of the extra ?
-and how much the motor mount has to be shortened ?

maybe some questions to the Imac pilots who have flown this plane already :

- how much mixing in knife Edge (Imac CG) ?
- how much mix in vertical down on throttle low ? -approx. 2 percent elv down to go down straight correctly ?
- how does it snap ?
- how does it perfom on different wind conditions from low to high and back-wind if you wnat to go into a spin ?

-how does the fuselage "carry" in knife edge and rolling circles or loops ?

-the airfoil of the rudder is very thick -how does it perform /track if you come down from a turn -does it shake the tail much (if you dont do anything) -or if youre flying in knife Edge and give full elevator down -what does it do then ?

I know, a lot of questions, but i would be glad if someone(competiton pilots) could answer it to me.

Thanks,

Chris
When I was flying the final version of the 123" extra it had just been finished and had only a few flights on it. We had cg set so there was a very slight push for level inverted flight, tracked perfect on inverted 45 uplines as well. The only mixing we did at the time was a throttle curve to deal with the pipes. The plane requires very little mix for coupling, and I would expect average 1 -2% downline mix. The plane tracks very well through everything, and I didn't notice the fuse angle of attack change during rollers (no tail drop with rudder input) perfect rolling loops, no effort and very little rudder input needed. The plane snaps very good and handles the wind as well as any plane this size I've flown. The plane just feels totally locked in during the entire flight, regardless what you're doing. I've flown a few top notch custom built IMAC planes and will put this plane up against them any time, I'm confident this plane will be one of the best ARF IMAC machines out there. A few top level invitational pilots have flown this plane and agree that it's very good, and are looking forward to the release of the plane.

As most people in the Bussness of ARF's will tell you...."your finished product is only
as good as the Guy building it"

EF has had good results soo far with who ever builds there
planes in China, so I am sure there planes will be "as" goodas the Prototype.....

As other manufactures will testimate, this is KEY in haveing GREAT PLANES....
This would be why the guys at EF spend SOO much time in CHINA....
Especially when THey has just started up the Company.......

THis is also why they most likely "WORKED" there way UP to the 123" extra they have coming out...

Is there anyone that actually owns one and has weighed it??
Just the engine...?

I had weighed it one time when I was working on a plane for Gerhard but I have since moved and will have to look and see if I can find the paper I had written the weights of everything down on...

Yes the firewall will need cut back a little bit for the 4 cylinders.

Any updates from the EF guys?

So we know the first shipment is sold out, and Chris posted that "everyone" should be taken care of by Christmas, are we still on schedule for that?

Seen info on the 50cc edge on the website, the 78" extra, and a little on the cap in the forums, but nothing on the 123.

There will be an "assembly" thread started within the next two weeks on the 123" Extra and how she goes together. Afterwards, there will be an in-depth review of how she handles IMAC sequences. I'm not a 3D "kind of guy".... So I will leave that part to someone who is so inclined...
