Default Crashing your best plane

How do you guys handle crashing your favorite plane? I recently crashed my absolute best most reliable plane, some how the crystal came out of the receiver in flight, I had just pulled 45% up line started rolling the plane at full throttle (G62) then no response,The plane arched over and headed down at full throttle the plane hit the base of a tree about 300 yards away Ouch! I had the receiver mounted on foam wrapped in rubber bands, I guess I should have totally covered my receiver in foam, a hard lesson learned. I was going to start putting together my 35% Yak I got for Christmas. Since I crashed, I'm kinda not in the mood to get started on it. The last thing I want is to fly "scared".

Bro don't let it scare you. That is the first rule to getting better, Pick your head up and shrug it off it will happen to the best of pilots. You have a nice bird sitting there just begging to be flown, lets see a build thread!! Good Luck Chris

Yea dude.. know one thing...
EVERY PLANE YOU OWN WILL CRASH ONE DAY.
Once you understand that, its all gravy.

Basically i write off (in my head) any money I have in a plane.
and then fly the poop out of it. If it lasts a year AWSOME.
If i sell it and make a few bucks back BONUS.

But if you fear crashing you will never get better.
(and I'm speaking of controlled flight, not just doing stupid things that you know will result in a crash)

Dude.. JUSt HUCK IT.

That's gotta' hurt. Chris is right, you've got to get the Yak built. By the time you get it ready for the air, you'll be ready. I've posted these pics in another thread, but they fit this circumstance even better.

This was my 30% Ultimate, the same one as my avatar,

Dude I don't think the type of receiver matters, Over time the metal prongs on the crystal become loose due to vibration and high G's, No matter what at some time some where your crystal will come out on its own, it may be 1 month or 5yrs but it will happen if you don't take the necessary precautions. Don't say you were not warned!! Later Chris

This is the first time I have ever heard of a crystal falling out of a receiver. Sorry to hear that. Just remember when it comes to ALL planes, gravity sucks!

every airplane has a number, some have a big number some have a small number, but all numbers eventually come up. fly or crash, be happy about the time spent doing something you enjoy.

At least you know why your plane went in. I think personally that the worst crashes are the ones where you don't know and never find out why the plane went in. I've lost two bg planes to PCM lock out, and to this day I don't know if somebody turned on, on me, if it was industrial radio noise in the area, or what. The last big crash was my Composite-ARF 3.0m Extra in the green flag scheme. That happened 1 year ago, and it messed up much of my flying the rest of that year.

It may sound harsh, but you can only blame yourself for your loss. You will repeatedly read in these forums, that you tape your crystal to your Rx, especially on a gasser. I often, if needed, put a small piece of foam over the crystal, so the tape puts a slight pressure on it, to keep it in its socket. Taping in your crystal, wrapping your RX in foam, or otherwise protect it from vibrations, and securing all wire connections securely, are all MUST DOS with these types of planes.
Sorry for your loss, but at least you learned something from it.
