AEROWORKS 50 CC Extra 260 ELECTRIC CONVERSION

Ladies/Gentleman,

I am starting my next " Eleterrific " project. I am really starting to enjoy the huge grin I get when I plug in my electrics, and go fly.

I am building the Aeroworks 50 cc QB Extra 260. Since I am somewhat a penny pincher, I will be using strickly everything from our freinds underground in China. I have built several 47-50" 3d ships to test out some items, and have had nothing but astounding luck with them. I will be equipping it with the following items:

HD-9110MG Digital Servos x 5
3000 Mah Ni-mh rx Pack
Spektrum 7000 receiver
Vess 23 (a) propellor
Truturn (ultimate 3.5 " Spinner
(5) 12" extensions
(2) 32" extensions
Mpi Voltage regulator to 5.7 volts. rx

The whole package added up comes out to +/- $ 2,600 buckaroonies.

Aeroworks recommends servos with at least 180oz of torque, so why not go with the HD-9150 if you insist on using that brand? Also, why are you having the regulator set a 5.7v rather than 6v? I set my regs to 6.2 volts to ensure that my servos are delivering as much torque as thet can.

Also, since you're going to lipo route, you might as well use a lipo for your rx battery to. I purchased a 7.4v 2S 3700 Tenergy pack for pretty cheap recently. I am using two of them for the receiver in my Flash.

WAY, WAY, WAY overkill on the rx battery, and I mean BY A LONGSHOT!!!
As stated already, you area already stuffing 5 amps and 40 volts of potentially explosive energy into the plane, so why not a little more for rx power? Or a single A123 1100mah battery? Since you already have to pop the hatch to replace/recharge the main battery you might as well replace/recharge the rx battery. Doing it this way you can easily get by with a 3 ounce little 700mah lipo/reg or A123 1100 and no reg instead of a 9 ounce chunk of dead weight.

It's been one of those weeks, listed below is the motor setup

HXT 80-85 A 250 KV OUTRUNNER w/ a vess 23 (a) prop

I have done the calculations and it should give me aprox 25 +/- lbs of thrust for roughly 7 min of flight time, with a minute or two reserve.

I agree with you on the lipo rx route, I have just heard a few comments on a buddy that the plane has a tendancy to come in a little tail heavy even with everything as far up as possable?
I do have a fromeco set-up I will probably use if the weight is not the issue.

I am not sure what you are saying about the servos? the servos I purchased have aprox 350 +/- in/oz of torque.. or 10.5 kg/cm " 1 Kilogram = 35.2467 oz

Do you plan to do much lightening on the airframe? I would be surprised if you can get a plane this heavy to give good 3D performance on a 10s set-up - but more power to you if you can. Enjoy the build, it sounds like fun.
