I think this might be part of their thinking.
Some guys don't like to fly with 3D flyers. So is it fair to ban 3D flying from the event then? Did you ever think that 3D flyers might not like to fly with non 3D flyers? You never hear 3D flyers complaining about it though. They can fly with and get along with other flyers. Why should 3D flyers be punished because other flyers don't like to fly with them?

There was a time when I didn't know how to fly 3D (I'm still not that great), but I always enjoyed being around the guys that did fly 3D. I never wished they would go away. I'm not a huge fan of warbirds, but I don't want them banned from the event. I don't care much about helicopters, but I know they have just as much of a right to fly as I do. I just don't understand this bad attitude some guys have against 3d flying.

I guess you non 3D flyers can have this event and fly around in circles to your hearts content. I'm just warning 3D flyers not to waste their time or their gas money on this one.

Oh man! The Big Bird police would be all over those guys! Flying like that might actually wake up some of the spectators. We can't have that.

That was so unsafe too! I bet several planes were crashed and several spectators were killed. They probably just edited out those parts.

I really dont see a reason to get your panties in a bunch over no 3d. So the circle flyers want to party, OH WELL. It would be better with 3d for guys who like that, but the guys spending all the time promoting this obviously have the right to make the final call. Blondes brunettes redheads. Warbird circle flyers, Imac, 3d. That is a wild night for me cause I do all three! 871

We should be able to coexiest at a fun fly.
At our field we fly 3d with circle flyers all the time. 3ders fly down on the deck and circle flyers fly above us. When you want to land whats wrong with anouncing your coming in and the 3d flyer will stay clear till you land. If circle flying is what people come to see than they should have their sponsered pilot fly around at 3 hundred feet. See how dispoined they would be then

Their are not any 3d events here in Colorado and this is the biggest event here so he was probably looking forward to the event.

I didn't know my panties were in a bunch.
If you read the thread, I am warning 3D flyers not to waste their time or gas money by coming to this event. I've also stated my disappointment and lack of understanding towards the people that have banned 3D flying from the event. My club runs this event, and I am embarrassed by the attitude of this event committee.

I actually got the weekend off (unusual for me) and hoped to attend. I absolutely won't attend now. Unreal. Thanks for the update Jim.

Scott

FWIW, several friends have said that the event has been deteriorating over the last two years. Very sad and unfortunate.

No, it's still the same CD. He's the main problem. The event director and the contest director are 2 different people.

Wow, I'm glad I saw this. I had been looking forward to checking it out since I learned about it (right after it was finished) last year. I wasn't going to bring a plane and just wanted to check out a wide variety of flying styles. I can watch guys flying circles at the field five miles from my house. I believe that they are missing the point of planning a safe event but simply saying "no 3d flying" - what does that even mean, you can't stall a wing? Instead, they should simply make a reasonable list of rules to assure that the flying is safe and enjoyable for everyone which would certainly include refraining from some aspects of "3d" flight at certain times and places (i.e. - don't hover over the runway or in the middle of the pattern).

This post is coming directly from the event director. The only 3D limited maneuvers are Hovering and Harriers, the rest is up to the pilot and spotter to perform safely if there is traffic. Without traffic, ask the Air Boss and have fun.

I would encourage any pilot wanting to have a great weekend of flying and fellowship with other pilots to come and participate.

Check out the pilot registration form for complete details at:
http://www.loveairrc.org/Events/bigb...gistration.pdf

Please feel free to contact me with questions.

Regards,
Mark
