I guess if you rent some space to Rob for his logo, I may have posting rights again without wearing milk bone underwear.

hello ,I also built a 35% areoteck yac, it also came up a little heavy. I like the way it flys but it needs to be 3lbs lighter. the kit was a pleasure to build but it was missing a forrmer. and I cant seem to get any replacement parts from areotec (broke canipy). also have 2 extra 330 one built one not , same problem came up pretty heavy.

I don't know much about the integrity of John S. or the business dealings of Aerotech, but I do like to build lightweight airframes, I also like a good challenge.

If I could get my hands on a 42% Extra 300 or Velox kit; I would enjoy posting an on a diet build thread with a finished empty goal weight of 34-35 lbs. equipped with a DA 170 on pipes.

I think that would really bring one of these to life...

Just let me know what kits you want and I will get you a price on them. Also If it makes things better I will ship the kit and make sure it's complete before it goes out. The same goes for any parts you might need.Rob

Can you tell me if the Extra or the Velox is the best all around platform to work with, I mean which one has the best habits in pattern and 3D?

I'm a sucker for sharing information so here is my take on it. A super-bad-azz 42% Velox was in the works, but did not come to fruition. Mine I flew in the 2006 Advanced IMAC nats was a start in that direction. The next one was would have had the wing moved up an inch or so, and forward another 1.0" or more, and a true 2-place canopy. The 2-place canopy can actually begin near the LE of the wing when you compare it to the real velox photos. Anyway, the velox has huge sidewall area and can track and point roll extremely well. It has a sharp LEwing on in it, and the wing/stab airfoils were going to be reshaped to a more traditional profile, but thinned down some to reduce drag, and the rudder was going to be thickened up some.

If you were doing a custom ultralightweight, highly modified, overpowered bird, intended for sequence flying, I would go with the Velox. Also, this is not a wide-body plane, the cowl, in width, is barely able to fit in the 3W 170 without having holes for the cap cut. Not wide is good for sequence work. The cowl work is quite heavy and was targeted to drop at least a pound for weight reduction. The cowl is very "long", and a pie-in-the-sky dream was to get it redesigned to be shorter overall, thus yielding a much shorter internal motorbox as well.

Also, the real Velox has flown with some shape of SFG's, which opens up all kinds of great modeling opportunities if you go that route.

enjoy - let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Jim

The 300 would be the best of both worlds. The 300 is a 3-d machine but the velox is a pattern ship. But if you need one to do both than the 300 is the way to go.Rob
