What does everyone think about this plane? I have a friend that is a dealer and is pushing me to buy one.

There are two planes in the world that got announced and are quietly being sold and nobody is writing, videoing or talking about: The Sig Edge 540 and the Cox Model 12 biplane. (The Cox M-12 got a recent massive price reduction from $599.00 to $399.00) They appear to be okay planes but their respective companies just don't put any "ummph" in pushing them. Go figure......

i am very familiar with the sig products. the designers are friends of mine and we fly at their show every june. i was talking to scott christiansen this summer and he let me know that they are not continuing this edge. their market base just is not in the 3d field. (they did come out with some new beauties for the christmas lineup though!!!) i have seen it fly at the factory strip a couple times and it handles fairly nice with the fpe 111. now, this is not a 3d monster at all. sig doesn't have much experience in the 3d scene and that shows with this plane. it is inexpensive and it is pretty stable. it is a big 1/3 scale, almost 35% in appearance. if you want an easy to assemble arf and don't want to pay alot for it, this would be a good start. call the factory and offer them substantially less than they are asking for them and they'll probably sell you one of the remaining 5 or 6 pretty cheap! (that is just an assumption!)

i hope i didn't sound negative about this airplane. i actually think it is one of the better "buys" on the market if you want a general aerobat big and inexpensive. it just is a bit heavy for the best3d performance. like all sig arfs, it is easliy finished and very durable!

I always thought this was weird in how this plane has been out at least a couple years, .. yet no one even knows anyone .. who has ever seen one. Outside of the Sig website and the review FLY RC did about a year ago ... I've never seen a picture of this plane anywhere.

i don't think they ever actually pushed this model.. for the first couple summers of it's existance, it just sat on the sidelines at the june show at the factory strip. it really only flew one summer. like i said before, it is a good aerobat and sturdy but probably not the best advanced 3d machine. i was told that there are a few left and they probably will be done when they are gone. now, sig will always be great in getting replacement parts for their customers. they are some of the best at this. don't worry about parts not being around for long!

It is on sale right now at a substantially lower price. And they have 60 or so left to sell. I might buy one just so if we go down to sigs fun fly next year I would have a giant to fly there. Who knows maybe with a few mods it could be a killer plane.
The specs say that it weighs in at about 26-28 pounds ready to fly. My hangar 9 extra weighs that. And they call for the same size engines. Who knows If I get one I will keep you guys informed on how it flys. |

I just want to see a picture of one from ANYONE ... that isn't a part of Sig. Has anyone bought this plane? Does anyone know of anyone that has bought or seen this plane outside of a Sig function?
What is the significant reduction price the remaining 60 are going for? |

pictures?.......... No
But on the "I know a guy who knows a guy" side of things. There's a wholesale distributor in my city who was a "beta tester" so to speak, he flew an early version and made recomendations, and I've met him............. briefly................ 8 or so years ago......... when I still thought a 4star was thrilling. Never seen the plane or talked to anyone who's told me they have though. I beleive they exist! |
