This is sounding better than I originally thought.
At first I was completely discounting this as a possibility because I was thinking 50 pounds was A more realistic figure. As more info that comes out the more intersting it becomes.I like to fly a mix of scale like aerobatics and 3D with the obligatory hanging on the prop close to terra firma. I don't need balistic pull out power but a good steady pullout is good for me. So if it can be kept to the 40 pound range or less this would work well. Thanks for the info Lou |

I am "assembling" the TT Pitts and for lack of info and fear of messing up one of the beautiful clevises, how do you think they are attaching these to the flying wires?
Its a very nicely designed airframe similar to QQ version.I hope it flies as well too. |

Hi V,
You will have to strip the coating off of the ends of the wire to expose the bare wire. Then you have to silver solder the wire in the rigging coupler. Then the clevis screws on the rigging coupler. ***You must use silver bearing solder, or the solder joint will break with the vibration*** I am going to modify the stock attachment points to make the flying wires have a true scale appearance. I will also be ordering the true scale flat flying wires as well for this plane. I know they will be heavier but I am only a Sunday flyer the weight is not that critical for me. Hope that helps.

I'm sorry and I don't intend to flame or be rude in this comment... but I cannot see 43lbs. Maybe my scale is wrong.
I use PBG CF wing tubes (-16oz), CF spinner(-8 oz), 1lb lighter Kevlar flying wires (-16oz), Ti Axles (-4 oz), Ti tailwheel (-3 or 4 oz). I did make baffles that weigh about 4 oz. Engine is a 3W 170CS on Canisters (about the same weight as DA.) I also used a Powerbox. So my setup is probably +1lb to his with stock mufflers and no powerbox since he also had smoke but then -3lbs for the light weight stuff... so I would have figured Dana's to be in the 45 to 46lb range which is still good. Not meaning to flame here or anything but I don't think 43lbs stock can be correct unless something about my airplane is a LOT heavier than his or my scale is totally out to lunch (I don't think so but possible.) Mine is 43lbs 11oz DRY. For its size that is super light IMO - it is a HUGE airplane. It would fly just fine even at 50lbs - it has such a huge wing area (3,900 sq in.) It has over 1,000 sq in more wing than my 40% 3W Extra which at 39lbs is very light on the wing. When I spoke to Dana he was raving about how well it flew. The quality is great (better than my QQ Python IMO) and I think it will be awesome when the snow melts and I finally get to fly it. For the flying wires - if you use the stock ones they must be silver soldered into the threaded ends (with real silver solder not Stay-brite.) I would use a good quality brazing silver solder like easy flow 45 that you can get at most welding shops. Or use a Kevlar wire setup and save 1 lb Dana said he has poped the wires on his even silver soldered so they are 100% necessary.

Guys, I've just about got mine put together and all in all its pretty nice.Built in thrust offset works great with a 3/16 allowance at the firewall center, all installed blind nuts are dead on,seems a bit heavy on the tail but have'nt quite gotten to that point of CG yet, hardware is complete and actually usable. Would like a manual for reference on servo local and CG, But I will most likely figure it myself at the rate that manual is going.
Will have Hitec 7955's all round (12ea),still pondering power system, too many choices so little time.Anyhow i just wanted to chime in to see if this thread would regain some life and help out a poor loner like myself. |

I hope maybe the runways will be clear by April...I never did get a CG either. I have been meaning to call Dana at Chief and see if he ever measured it. |

Snow, snow, snow, snow... argh!
I spoke to Dana yesterday and I think I have convinced him we need the CG to fell comfortable maidening this beast. He is going to take the one thats hanging up at Chief in Florida down and figure it out. I'll be calling him on the 20th or so. Full on winter here... It's stilla good 6 weeks 2 months away for me to have a chance at maiden. |
