If I can find my 42% pontoons, I'll change out the landing gear and head that way. Hope yall don't get too waterlogged!

Hello Guys,
I'm trying to assess whether or not we can go ahead with the contest or if we should cancel or try and reschedule. I've checked motel availability for next weekend and I found none that are not already booked solid. Many areas around Baton Rouge are still without power and many area residents are in local motels. Some areas are not predicted to get power for up to three weeks. If you have reservations please check and see if they will honor them and post back to this forum so we can get an idea if most contestants have accomodations. I'm going out to the field tomorrow and check to see if we still have sheds and fences. I'll also be checking our contest support staff to see if they are still able to participate. I hope to make the call on go or no go by Sunday evening. Mel Douglas CD |

Got word today from the man himself the contest will be canceled. The field suffered too much damage from Hurricane Gustav.

I'm sorry to see that your field was damaged! The contest can be rescheduled or even postponed until next year but a guy's home is serious stuff. I hope everyone had little damage.
Has anyone heard of the guys in and around Houston? Guys like Allan Smith, Dean Nistetter, Chuck Ezell, Garett and others? Last thing I saw on FG was that Allan said he had some damage on his house but his 40% 'ers were okay! Wango Tango in Conroe said he would keep sending until the power went off - still haven't heard anything from him since. Eddie Bernaldez up in Longview said his power just came on at 0945 this morning (14 Sep). We had 25-30 mph wind gusts here on the west side of MS but not much rain. All of the rain was west of us in the Shreveport-Texarkana area going north to Little Rock. I hope everyone is okay. Take care, Bobby |

Bobby,
It was my neighbor's house that was leveled. I'm fine. Also I forgot to mention that the Harley is OK! We will be without power for a while. There's over 2 million people in the Houston area without power. I'm on a generator off and on trying to conserve my fuel. Don't know about anyone else. Allan |

Allen, good to hear you are ok, the pictures on the news look bad. I can’t imagine an area that big without electricity or anywhere for people to stay while you clean things up.

Thanks for the update Allan. Ike caused more damage in about the same square mileage area as did Katrina but there are more people in and around Galveston/Houston. I actually CAN imagine that many folks without power - Todd and I missed the Sherman contest because our power was off for a week and gas was very hard to find.
