By the looks of the tracks on the landing area, he has tried that before.

[quote=ferocious frankie;558982]What I want to know is how he got back to this take-off area.
Right at the end of the vid he cranked up the motor and started to take off again. He probably knows that area like the back of his hand and had plan B in the back of his thoughts. I've done that same sort of takeoff under power at a strip above Lake Buchanan in Central Texas. You have this 400 foot strip and a sheer drop-off to the lake 700 feet below. I did it in my Champ years ago and it was nothing to pull out a couple hundred feet above the lake. Now you wanna talk impressive and scary as hell? You need to see a Cessna 421 do this!! I want to know how he coaxed that bird into a 400 foot strip on top of a large hill like that! Then You gotta ask how he retracted the gear while he flailed himself off the strip and hurtled toward the water below. He pulled out at about 20 feet above the lake surface! ![]() WT |

That was awesome! I'm pretty sure it was some kind of ultralight or homebuilt, based on the size of the prop and the sound the engine made. It sounded like he was adding and retracting the flaps to help control his descent too. Towards the end you can hear a noticeable increase in wind noise, then it goes away.

Day-um !! Gotta be pretty boring for bush pilots some days aye ?
Yep you can see the prior (probably at idle) landing. I've seen some great stuff from bush pilot vids, those guys are the true blue "seat of pants" pilots !
