Nope, not any more. After the world contest in 1998 I packed it in. Got too expensive, too much time and wanted to work on career and family. Also, having placed 3rd out of about 80 pilots, I figured get out while the getting was good. In the next world contest, I could have gone up 2.... or down 70 or so! Aftersome pretty simple math, I decided to just do shows. No regrets. I do miss not flying perfectly. Shows just don't allow it, but I do still try to fly good lines.
Now, if i could just get that ego of mine in check all would be good!

I met this Matt Chapman guy a couple times. Super nice, no ego at all and put on an awesome show!

That said... after all that buttering up... Can I fly the Cap?!?!?!?! For some reason I think the Cap 10Bs that I flew up in Nashua several times just don't compare to the 580!!!! Plus... I'm sure your insurance wouldnt mind....

Key is in it. Full tank of gas. Knock yourself out! (BTW...engine is off, but then that shouldn't matter)

I could still make some airplane noises and pretend I was flying it.... we might need some oil and a crobar to pry me out of there once I have gotten in though...

Gary Ward is one of our locals and is killer in the MX2. At the airpark where I live, we have the very latest Pitts Model 12 flown by Greg Connell. Gary mentored Greg. When Greg reaches his full comfort level with the -12, it may surpass the capabilities of the MX2. The -12 has static thrust equal to it's weight.

If Bob Sadler and Pat Hartness say, Yes, BOTH Gary Ward with the MX2 and Greg Connell with the Model 12 may be at Joe Nall this year.

I know Gary pretty well. Probably one of the best airshow pilots out there.

Hey Matt,

Has Mudry given you any sort of idea on the useful life of that airframe? You've got to have a LOT of time on it these days. What's involved in a rebuild/overhaul during the off-season?

Bob was a great pilot, my father and bob shared a hangar together at torrance airport back in the day. i got to fly to Oshkosh with bob in his bonanza .

Herendeen could really make a Pitts dance. I saw him fly at Reno back in 1984. Truly amazing pilot.

Off thread slightly: Bob Hoover was my hero as a kid. I saw him fly the yellow Mustang and Twin Commander at Edwards Air Force Base around 1970. Also saw Art Scholl with the Penzoil Super Chipmunk. The two absolute best old-school aerobatic guys to ever hold a stick.
