Default 2008 SW Championships Sept 27-28

Hi all, curious that no one has started a thread about the upcoming IMAC meet in Las Vegas?? I am fairly excited as this is my second contest and thought maybe we would hear a little more about it at this point. The roster looks like it will be a good turn out. Hope to see you all there!

I'm giving up my championship position because I can't go. Then again, even if I could go I probably wouldn't. That field is a bit nasty sometimes and I wouldn't want to risk my plane a week before the shootout.

I was going to hold it at the North field this year.

But 2 factors stopped that.

1) I moved to Washington St
2) Our club made a deal with the city to appease the neighbors....NO MORE CONTESTS AT THE FIELD. So far that will hold for next year as well.

No more contest at the North Vegas Field? That blows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I won't be able to make the Regionals either. Had to make a choice, and like Nick, went with The Shootout.

Yah the whole north field issue really sucks. I would love to head to the shootout but being a single parent at the moment really puts a damper on it. So going to have to fly local only for now.

Yes it does, but that was one of our concessions to keep the field open. When the majority of the users don't fly GS or IMAC it had to be done. I voted for no more contests.......I wanted the field to stay open for everyone

The field has had its share of gremlins with 2.4 out there. The only Spektrum plane I lost due to a loss of control was at that field. I just don't want to take any chances.

I fly out there pretty much every chance I get, typically 3-4 times a month for around 3 years now. I have yet to see any 2.4 issues while I am at the field with others or my equipment. People jumping on others freqs. yes but not 2.4. Are they 2.4 swamped? From what I hear yes and I believe sweetpea has more info on that than I do. That doesn't keep me from flying out there.

Nick,
I, and many others have flown at Bennett Field on 2.4 without problems. I still think that your problem was the infamous brown out/re-boot. It happened before the problem was widely known. I was standing right next to you, and if you remember, that was my impression at the time.

There have been problems at that field on every brand of 2.4 So brownout isn't the only concern.

But there have been way more problems on 72mhz there. I've flown both 72 and 2.4 there without issue numerous times. I'm more scared of a dumb thumb or plane problem that puts my plane in that marsh. I don't want to trek through it to try to find my plane (ask Gus about that!).

Gus--I know Tim May didn't have the time to CD a contest this year and asked me to do it. With my move I couldn't. I guess he stepped up and did it anyways. I'm not sure there is anyone to CD the event next year or not.

Bennett Field has special history that make it a great draw. Much of what we owe to IMAC and these beautiful big airplanes was played out at this airport and the one that used to be out at Craig road.

What marsh? You sure gotta love the view of the mountains in the background.

Hoping Tim May has enough time for all of us again. I do wish to see him and Sheri again.

Does anybody know if there are football games or rock concerts on the same week end? That does kinda dampen it some.

Pray for blue skies and calm winds and one more chance to burn gas!

Until then,

Steve and Sue

Hi Steve, look foward to meeting you in a couple weekends. If you are serious about the marsh question, yes there is a knee deep salt water marsh about 200yd from the runway pretty much surrounding the place. Just hope you never need to go out there. Nasty don't ask me how I know.
