Default Da 100. DA & Slimline mufflers comparison?

I am ordering mufflers for my new da 100. looks like the quality mufflers out there for it are slimline, and the Da mufflers. Is there any noise, performance, or weight differences between these????? Thanks! 871

If you are going to use smoke then go with the Slimline. If not go with what is less money.

Silent Beauty. Less money. Shiny. Light. I like the part about not spending the extra 70 bucks.

Those look nice......but the TB site says they are baffled, and may cause power loss. Did you notice a loss in power?Have you ever ran them in comparison to the da? Has anyone ever tached the two? 871

I tuned a DA 50 for a guy at our field that had one on it. Flew the snot out of it and yes, it sounded a bit quieter so I'm guessing it is baffled. If there was a power loss, I couldn't tell. We ought to see how they are baffled to see if it is a restrictive type of baffle with small holes drilled in the baffle itself or maybe a series of partial baffles for the exhaust to flow around. Either way, it ran great and the price was agreeable with me.

So which are the best mufflers for the price?

DA100
TBM silent beauty
Jtec
Slimline

I am planning on running smoke...but don't see the necissity to buy smoke mufflers especially for a hot gas engine.
The TBM are nice and light but as mentioned earlier I am concerned about the baffling and I don't see if they are tapped for smoke.
Might just end up with the good ole DA100 stock mufflers.

Any thoughts?
Mark

When I spoke to DA a few months back they were not to keen on the slimline mufflers, they said expect about 500 RPM in loss as compared to DA muflers. Basically DA is less restrictive although louder. If you want smoke just get a DA muffler and a bernzomatic Map gas torch, then silver solder "braze" on a smoke insert to each muffler close to the exhaust port kind of like I did on this header for my friend. The bernzomatic kit comes with everything needed for the job but I would recommend getting some flux as well.

The TBM Silent Beauty enters into the pipe rectangular tube, then into the chamber.
Each outlet tube has 2 long slots in.
Mine cracked so I got to see the insides.
Mine is also loud IMO, compared to a few other types at the field.
You can drill and tap for smoke if you want.

Using a Vess 26B, DA85 and TBM SB pitts, it's turning 7200 in flight, using Eagle tree seagull.
Pulls Lanier edge 94" AUW 21lb vertical at half open butterfly. Plenty of power.
I believe mine cracked due to the rich setting-vibration during initail breakin. It was a real shaker for awhile, now smooth with 5 gallons thru. Also bought mine before they recommended a bracket. I do not plan on getting rid of mine unless a deal comes along on one that is quieter.

I have two DL-100's, one is just getting into gallon number five. Turning a Mejzlik 27 X 10 @ 6500 rpm.

DL-100 number two is brand new ( 32 oz. of fuel through it ) 40:1 Pennzoil aircooled Slimline smoke mufflers, Mejzlik 27 X 10TH @ 6350 rpm. So some more run time, some tuning the rpm's will pick up.

Not too sure on noise differance then the stock DL-mufflers.
Maybe alittle more restrictive, maybe.

I know DL #2 will pick-up the 150 rpm's to match DL #1. Hopefully alittle more since the prop is a TH model.

Slimlines are double the weight of the stock DL mufflers, but are a much better/long lasting/higher quality muffler.

Just look at the differance in the thickness of the downtubes. The can, can ends, and flange are also thicker.

I have the TBM Silent Beauties on both of my DA-100s. TBM says you should get about 6db reduction in noise. It is not noticeably to the ears though, but I don't notice any reduction in power.

Very simple to drill and tap these for smoke.

I just bought and installed a pair of the DA mufflers, they are baffled, and for a weight I got 10.05oz for the pair of them including the muffler bolts.

We're 10.4oz ( in the package) for the standard 100 mufflers and 11.3 oz ( in the package) for the new Da100 version which has the holes in it for the carb needles access

We use sound technolgy to develop all our mufflers, no drilled holes in the end of a pipe to reduce power and noise

Basically all brands will be very close in noise as there really not much you can do with that basic design. Baffleing does ( drilling holes in the end of the tube) reduce power which in turn reduces noise ( lower RPM)
