Default EXPO ?

setting up expo?
I know everyone prefers a different feel. just wandering what some of you are doing with it. I had mine set up similar to some of my planes but it dosnt feel right for the chopper. I was out in the yard hovering today and tried a few expo settings but never found anything real comfortable. I am fairly new to helis so any help or advice would be helpful. I am flying a century hawk 30 with a 9C THANKS

I know this post is a bit old but when I flew my raptor 50 or T-rex 450SE I used 0% expo, on the other hand I fly my 3d planes with 70% (on a Fut 9C) go figure. I did not like the feel of the Helis with expo, it felt like they became unresponsive or very "mooshy" on the sticks. A lot of it is personal preference and what helps you feel comfortable with the specific airframe. Just because a Radio has Expo does not mean that you have to use it. The features are there to help, don't feel obligated to have to use a feature iif it hinders your flying.

20 to 25 percent is a good starting point. If you pinch the sticks you might want a little less, those that fly with thumbs might prefer a little more. 20 percent or so actually makes the control response linear anything more softens the center.

Very good point, I pinch and I have never considered that. Now that I fly planes I find myself using the thumb method more...

I put a 2.4g JR 12X in a Yak that I flew last year with a 10X. I started with 25% expo on the 2.4. I just about lost it on the takeoff flight because i didn't feel like I had enough elevator. After landing I reduced the expo on all surfaces to 14%. The next two flights felt like my old plane again. I guess I grew up with expo (Kraft 7C) and that was what I learned - only about 14% using the 10X. I don't know why I used 25% but everyone said the 12X was a better feel. It is but I didn't like that much expo! If I want more throw on a surface I flip the rate switch and then I have more throw!!

Yep, it can throw you off when you are expecting one thing and you get another.

I personally have my sticks set up on the long side because I have long fingers (not saying they drag on the ground there, but that I don't have small hands). Having them set short is too awkward feeling. That said, the longer the sticks become the less sensitive the controls end up being (a kind of "mechanical" expo) and that may be another reason I flew with 0%. Still doesn't explain why I use so much on the plane though.
