Default My DA 85 started flooding out all the sudden

Yea, now everytime I start it up after filling it with gas the first flight of the day the plug is just soaked! Even if I dont choke it, it still floods. After I dry the plug, it seems to run ok. not sure if it is related but has a bit of low-mid cut out when in flight. This is totally out of the blue, I had it running good for 10 gal before this happened! Anyways I was hoping to fix tonight so I could fly tomorrow so any help would be great! 871

you use a two line or three line tank system.if you use a two lone with a tee maybe you are filling it too fast and blowing gas past the needle in the carb

Make sure choke is actually opening. If that's OK, check that the forked lever is still connected to the stud on the center of the diaphragm. (Under stamped steel plate on carb)

Your needle valve has something stuck under it .

Clean the carb and fuel filters and the problem will be fixed .

Seen this too many times .

There is no pump made for model planes that will pump fuel past a needle that is operating correctly...It takes 8 lbs +++ to unseat the needle....

We don't all use "model aiplane fuel pumps". Several of us use automotive pumps because they are so cheap. Mine puts out 14lbs of pressure, but I use a three line tank so it has no effect on the motor, just fills my tank fast. He might use one like I do.

For sure 3d, there is never a bad idea when brainstorming a problem, especially one that would be a 10 second try! Thanks man......871

Dang all this over a simple statement. My guess is it is not the pump blowing fuel past the needle. Had it running fine for 10 gallons before ? Hmm. Not the fuel pump.

Never heard of valieum...
Your carb diaphragm is bad...the one with the metal center...Invest $5 in a Walbro diaphragm kit...
Do one side at a time, get the gaskets on the correct side of the diaphragms Don't dink with the little lever that lifts the needle..End of problem...
If you MUST clean something, take out the screw that holds the shaft for the lever...Don't lose the spring...Clean the needle and the seat with a Q tip...

Is this kit pretty "universal".....or do I need a special one specific to my carb #? Thanks 871

You need a special kit for your carb SERIES (WT, WG, etc), but not necessarily for the number. Any small engine repair shop should carry the replacement kit.

Mine started to flood after 1 gallon, called DA and they recommended to clean the carb inside.
I did and found a few small metal flakes inside the diagfram where the fuel shutoff needle is, cleaned it up and back to starting with no flooding. The tech said taking the carb apart to clean would not void the warranty on the engine. looked like casting flakes or similar.
