This thread proves that there is a TON of amazing 3D/Freestyle pilots out there. Poeple will always list their favorites pilots as the best. There is no best. Just lots of amazing guys having fun. I personally would rather watch someone fly a good IMAC sequence. That sticks in my mind much longer. I have three IMAC flights that I distinctly remember as being as close to perfect as you can get. That gives me wood! 1- Leseberg flying an Unknown at the Tucson Shootout in 2005 2- Seth Arnold flying a Known at this years Nationals. 3- David Moser flying the final Unknown at this years Nationals.

[quote=Wayne;577233]All you would have is a winner of that contest, that day, in front of those judges.
I guess that is exactly what Chip Hyde was at the last T.O.C. ![]() Like you said Wayne, Just a bunch of badd ass dudes having fun.

Thats right. If the contest was run one week later with the same contestants, there is a good chance the outcome would have been different. Thats true for any competition. The best, or the winner, is just that for that contest, in front of those judges, on those days.

I love watching guys like Jesky, Kyle, and Leseberg do their freestyle routines, and if I had to pick one I think I would pick Jesky.
BUT, I think QQ is the reason those guys are so good and he is still right there with them. |

I gotta throw my vote in for Gernot. I thinks his music selection is good, he flys very well to it and his routine is exciting. His maneuvers are very good. He's my new favorite right now.

I went to the Reno air races a few years back and got there a few days early and watched Kirby Chambliss just out flying around, trying to get a feel for the area and the box. I nearly had heart failure with some of the things he was doing. But when it came to air race day, his routine was actually quite bland compared to when he was flying for just himself.
With that said, I would like to see the guys you have listed flying at there home fields, that would have to be amazing. I've only seen them at competions were they have to not only fly for themselves, but for their their sponsors too. I pit crewed for Terry Hahn this year at the XFC, and that guy is right about not knowing what Terry is going to do next. I knew if Terry took a walk, he was going to look at something and add that to the next flight if it fit in. Terrys dad calls for him, and over the years has given up any sort of calling a manuver, he just counts down time... Terry and I deploy to fly UAV's and the last two XFC's Terry has only had 3 weeks of flying before the contest. We are trying to adjust our schedule so that he might actually get 2 months of flying in for next year! I will tell you all one thing, there are just certain people that from when they takeoff to landing, it is a airshow and everyone stops to watch, or even if there is no one around. I take my hat off to all those guys and am just glad that they are around!!!

Well said everyone. There are more unbelieveably skilled pilots than you can count. My vote would be for a local pilot Scott Moore. The guy only flys one day a month but after his warm up flight he makes you want to puke from the crazy $#!t he does. If he had more time to fly this guy would rule.

I agree that many local pilots you see at the field have great moves (compared to the 3D routines you see on-line).
However like some have said in these posts, if you have a chance to see the top dozen pilots fly for fun at a local field or at a relaxed 3D event, they will amaze you with incredible skills. I watched a top 10 pilot (no names needed) fly in conditions where some of very impressive people did not want to fly... They were flying the toughest maneuvers in 15-20 mile-an-hour gusts a foot off the ground.... When I see their 3D video, its good, but does not truely reflect the total talents. When flying competitively, you have to fly in some fairly funky conditions and still put in on the deck. |
