I know a bit about the engine as they were made about 10 miles down the road from me.

The engine is a Walker 3.2 which was made in Milton-Freewater, OR. It is a Sachs Dolmer variant and originally came with CH ignition. Walker used Sachs parts and machined the motor mount and crankcase along with the timing ring and prop hub. They made the 3.2; 4.2; and 5.8 with the 3.2 being the best runner of the three. On and off availability of Sachs Dolmer parts to put these engines on the market was the eventual demise of the company.
For whatever this info is worth, there ya have it.

You got yourself a pretty good deal I'd say. Get a better prop, a 22-8 or 22-10 of some variety NOT Zinger or Masterairscrew. The sachs based engines are very durable and should last a long time. Same for the CH ignition.

I was going to say I know that motor It's a Walker machine 3.2 Had about 3 of them an they were awsome motors the best sachs conversion of the time in fact one I sold to a friend 15 yrs ago and still flying in a Byron Pitts I was actually hovering with one of those on a ACE 30% Extra 230 that I honeycombed the wings and got rid of the aircraft 7layer plywood and replaced with lite ply 14Lbs all up and was told I was a Dangerous flyer for hovering and was shuned and told real planes don't fly like that. Well Danm Why did't I realize I needed 45 to 50 degress of throw? Well getting back to your Bird TheHS-61 which is a mini servo kind of scares me on a plane of that size????
MEwert if you were that close you probably know that the maker of these motors used to fly an OHIO RC 27% Ultimate with a 3.2 in it and that was a really hot setup as I built I believe 1 of the first ten Ultimates that Bob Ankney (OHIO RC)produced as his first kit??No actually his Chipmunk was the first then the Ultimate!

Mitsu,

I have a new brand of 100cc twin that I paid $700.00 for. It had some issues as it came from the factory and needed a few parts and machine work. Now the manufacturer sent me the parts but I had to have the machine work done by someone else because I had to be away for awhile. Shipping the engine to him cost about $35.00 while the repair work cost another $75.00.

So now I'm into the engine $805.00 when it was supposed to cost $700.00. The manufacturer has re-worked the engine design and says I'm welcome to the new parts for $200.00 or so or one of the new engines if....if... I send them my old engine back plus another $200.00.

So to obtain a good engine it's going to cost me $1,005.00 plus shipping ($35.00), or $1,035.00 for a $700.00 engine. That doesn't include installing and removing the engine from the airframe after discovering it was deficient and losing about 7 months of flight time. Is that a good deal?

Pat,

your engine is an example of a BAD deal.

P40maniac,

Yea, I knew that but Mitsu was pushing the engine line and I wanted him to know how they treated the people that provided the answers for making a better product. That little fiasco assured that I will never buy another Chinese engine design again.

Perhaps it's time I tell the end of this story in their engine thread at another site.

Yes, I remember going to the Toledo show with Mr. Walker and a couple other buddies. Walker bought the Ultimate and I got the Chipmunk in ARC version. I ended up finishing the Ultimate for him. It ended up looking too pretty and he sold it without ever flying it.

Set low rates up LOW!!!! 1" each way, all surfaces. High rate, about 50% more. Mostlly depends on your skill level.
