Would it be possible to soft mount it?

Hyde mounts still sells a soft mount for gas motors. But I think it actually causes more harm, especially to the cowl than it does good.

Hard mount that thing......99.97% of folks do that. We can't all be wrong

i think i'll just hard mount and not experiment with this engine mounting stuff.

another thing that i was thinking about was gas fumes inside the fuse? are there any vents in the fuse to let fumes out? say you develope a small leak somewhere like around the fuel tank. i suppose there could be fumes hanging around inside of there. seems to me thats a bad situation (or could be). have planes ever been damaged from fire due to a situation such as this? that would suck to watch your new 40% go up in a ball of flames will doing a snap-a-saurus.... just wondering if there's a need to even think about this. thanks again.

No need for vents. In my three years of flying gas, I have never witnessed a gas plane catching fire. Also, there is no need to soft mount your gas engine. Use either stand-offs or a wood spacer. The latter being preferred.

sounds good. i've seen pics of some super looking built up wooden mounts. here's one that i saw on a build thread on here. nice work. this seems like it would be nice and robust but what about the weight? anyway, good advise...thanks. i've never heard of a plane fire myself so i guess i'm just thinking out loud when i ask some of this dumb stuff.

That is a nice spacer. Yes, the wood spacers are a little heavier than stand-offs, but worth it IMO. For the DA-85, the manual recommends wood over aluminum stand-offs. It will acutally void the warranty if you use stand-offs. I have seen end-grain balsa used with thin ply end caps as well to cut down on the weight. Ask Bodywerks about that.

Don't worry about gas leaks (fumes) in the plane. You'll notice it right away as it eats the foam off your fuse bottom or turtle decks.

You will enjoy gas. It starts easy, runs consistent and is cheaper to continue running once you make the investment in the engine.

I use to have nitro planes, but after going gas i'll most likley never own anything nitro again! Gas is much moer economical than nitro and less messy! Weigh it out $16 a gal or $3.46 a gal you decide!

now thats what i'm talkin about right there....the money that you save in fuel expenses will eventually pay for other toys...(more planes..lol)... in fact, thats the way i was thinking back when i sold out of my two stokes and went four stroke. but now, i have to travel quite a distance to get nitro so it's really getting rediculous. i just went down and bought two gallons today, in fact. the stuff was 22 bucks a gallon and i burned a half tank of gas in the pick up to go down and back.....jeeeeez! i'm not struggling too much doing 'THIS' math, thats for sure. i can get "gas" at the store 500 feet from the house....for 3$ and some change a gallon..come on boys..figure it out! now, if someone wanted to start out in gas for less money, those smaller 26 cc engines arent really that expensive and they'll for sure haul around a pretty good sized plane. but the one that i want is that DA 50. now there's a sweet plant right there. well thanks for the chit chat you guys. hey, do you think i could put a 26cc gasser on my u can do 60? might be too heavy. idk.
