Default Dietrich Slick 540 or Radiowave Extra 300 for 3D

O.K., I've got a DA150 w/greeves to put into one of these planes. I primarily want this plane to 3D with. If anyone has flown one of these planes or if you have seen them fly please chime in.

Here are the qualities I'm looking for:

1) Most important to me - Plane must be solid in upright and inverted harrier. I don't like fighting with wing rock but then again I'm sure nobody does and I like a plane that turns easily in harrier.

2) High alpha knife edge (some lock in better than others)

3) Rolling harriers (my QQ Python and EF Yak are so easy and they make me look better than I am, which I like)

4) Weight (good pullout is a plus but not a critical as flight characteristics to me).

5) Hover and torque roll (probably not a problem with either choice).

If you can think of any other airframe please feel free to discuss but the 2 I mentioned are what I like so far.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

I don't know about the Slick 540 yet but I have been eyeballing the thing (good looking plane). The Radio Wave I dont know about either?

But What I can tell as far as 3D goes..

I have the SD Models 37.5% Yak. Excellent 3D machine harriers are very solid. The thing just locks in when hammer the elevator. I know that the paint shemes now suck IMHO. But if ya find one ya like it will make you look good well in 3D anyway.
Hovering is also very easy with this plane. Rolling harriers are nice but take alot of aileron throw. I am one my 2nd one now. The one negative about the plane is it a bit on the heavy side of things - they usually come in about 41-42+ lbs. Bare in mind I do not have the carbon gear or the carbon spar. It will do OK up to intermediate in IMAC. The model lacks vert snap penatration on the uplines alot of front drag. This model suffers in unlimited IMAC verticals. One thing it does do extremely well is the roller. Model has very little to no rud/elev mix in knife. I have done no mixing - it doesnt need it. Knife edge is effort less just roll it over and crank in the rudder and milk the throttle and carve hi alpha knife - sweet!

One caveat here - a DA-170 may be just what the doctored ordered for good vert penetration??
Anyway great 3D machine - not the best IMAC machine IMHO..
Thats why I am looking at a Compy 3M Yak...for IMAC..

My two cents-

The Dietrich Slick isn't out yet, so you might have a hard time getting opinions on it. A few folks have flown the prototypes. Maybe one will chime in. If you can wait until after the first 50 get here, I'll let you know. I have one ordered. They aren't supposed to be in until the end of November, but I am expecting them to be late because almost everything new is late and since I want one, it'll take it forever to get here. lol. It should be a 3D monster, though. I have a Dietrich 42% 260 and if the Slick 3D's any better, it will be unreal. The 260 is a bad MF for 3D. It is rock solid in any attitude, corners as tight as you want it to, flips and tumbles effortlessly, makes rolling harriers look easy, and is light as hell. If you think your Python is locked in, the 260 will take half of the effort of keeping it locked in out of the equation. I've flown a Python and I considered it "work" to keep it in a steady harrier. I will bet the Slick flies as good, if not better, than the 260.

OK, i was given the opportunity to fly the slick at the ohio huckfest. scott from dietrich allowed several people to fly her! all i can say is.....STABLE! harriers great and knife has little to no coupling! it was very true through a slow roll and went horizon to horizon without falling much!....and i am not a TAS type pilot!!!!! (not yet anyway!)

the only issue i had with it was the scheme in the overcast skies. it was a bit tough to see. it has a lot of white and it made it a bit difficult for me. now, it isn't hard enough to see for you to NOT buy it... maybe just add some flashy graphix and make her easier to spot in the air!

i haven't any experience with the JTEC so i don't have an opinion there...

the SLICK ROCKED!!!!!!!

HI Everyone, I have the only prototype of the Diethrich Slick 540 and feel it is the best flying plane Dietrich has. Better than the 42% 260 and the 300 LP. The structure is solid, no problems with it. The plane is solid in precision and 3D. I am not the greatest pilot and I can do a slow roll from end to end straight and true. It 3D's awesome, no wing rock, does everything. Inverted flight is hands off on down elevator, not tail heavy either, very small amounts of coupling. Animal Jesky flew it also at the Ohio Huckfest and was impressed with it, loved the way it flew.

37.4 lbs. minus fuel
Hitec 7955's all around
3 - each wing
1 - each stab
2 - ganged on rudder inside pull-pull cable
3W 150
standard muffs
2 - Fromeco 5200's
2 - adjustable regs.
1 - Fromeco 2600
1 - fixed reg
3 - JR heavy duty switches
1 - JR AR9000 rx with 2 sat.

I'd say you picked two good planes.
I don't think either would be a bad choice.

I'd say in this case go with which ever plane really appeals to you ascetically.

I have flown both planes, and both are REALLY GOOD.

Scott,

That sounds awesome! I already pre-ordered mine. Are you going be visiting any fields or events near central Indiana anytime soon? Would be fun to see the plane in person! I was particularly interested to hear about the decision to go with flat Dubro hinges instead of the usual Robart.

Can't wait to fly IMAC with the Slick 540 next season.

That's my problem. The end of November will take forever to get here and when it does, they will probably be a couple months late just because I want one so bad. Crack that whip Kevin D!!! I don't wanna see anything in China but Aholes and Elbos! If balsa dust and glue aint flyin everywhere, then someones not building fast enough! LOL Only 50 on the first run and Kevin D said about half were already sold a little over a month ago when I talked to him last, so if you want one off the first run, you better order one.

Never flown a Slick yet but the Radiowave is still one of the BEST planes ever built ! I love it. It harriers and rolling manuvers are solid , Go to the clubhouse and click on flying with buttface and watch his video and see how smooth the Radiowave is. Brian

No input on the Dietrich but I have the Radiowave Extra. I think it is more IMAC orented but will 3D with ease! Ever see Adam Rant (Breakstuff 5050) fly one?? OMG !! I am liking the Radiowave, all most as good as my Dalton.
