Isn't it possible that someone could fly in a later contest outside of SC and use those points in the SC championship? So how is it possible to name the regional champs until all of the IMAC contests are completed for the year?

Bob that is a good question. This could very well happen. In order for that to happen there would have to be a contest in a state that borders the SC region. There are known at this time.

There will need to be a rule adjustment for that in the Championship rule. It used to be in there stating that the Regional Championship was the last contest of there year.

Rick
I had been wondering about this since the points topic was going on earlier here on FG.

It seems like ANY two contests outside the region could count. I doubt anyone would travel to FL to move up a spot or two but it seems like it would be possible.

From our rules at http://www.mini-iac.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=62: "A competitor may receive points for his/her region, as well as count two contests outside of his or her region. The AMA Scale Aerobatics NATS may count as one of the out of region contests."

And since this is an international group, wouldn't any valid IMAC contest in the world count?

Bob, the way it's stated is correct. I guess if a pilot wanted come from that far they could. I'm sitting hear wondering why that part of the rule was deleted. I know it used to state that it had to border the region. I'm going to look into this.

Thanks for the input. Are you going to make it to the contest?

Rick

Sadly no. It seems something has come up every chance I had this year to make it to a contest. I'm hoping for next year.

I think it should be any contest and not just one in a bordering state. There are times when people travel on vacation and could hit a contest a little further away. I do think it should be changed that the points race ends at the regional championships. For no other reason than to be able to hand out the awards at the regionals. The bordering state thing is silly when you think about it. I think I can get to Arizona, not bordering our region, faster than Alabama. This is definitely true for the guys in West Texas.

I too think it should be anywhere but the region's points race should end at the regional champtionships. I actually think all of the regions are in this same boat this year but I doubt it will be a real issue anywhere. Technically one could fly in Brazil on 12-31 (if there was a contest then) and have the points count and that was probably not the intent of the rule writers.

It's not a regionals point race if you count contests outside of the "region". So why don't we just call it a points race like it really is ?

Allan,

You are only competing against those people within your region for the regional points race. I think a limit of 2 is too high if the number of contests counted is dropped. I would say a limit of 1 outside contest should be used if the number of contests is lowered from the 6 that count now.

Just look at the weather looks to be almost perfect. Points what are points I thought it was all about flying. Yeah points make this contest more interesting but I would show up regardless of the point standings. Most regions you must be invited to fly in the regional so what happens to the guys that don't get invited?
