Hello fellow FG members,
I just love the way the yak 3d on the realflight g4 sim flies and hovers. I would like to create a plane with the same characteristics. Does anyone have a set up that flies closely to the sim? Im teaching myself to hover and I think that plane is a peice of cake. I love it. Secondly, it has these fins on the bottom of the ailerons, I have seen them on real aircraft too. Does anyone know what they are for? As always, THANKS!!!

Wow, until you mentioned it (causing me to look a little loser) I never noticed those things hanging off the bottom of the wings. I'm curious what thats all about as well.
BTW I fly the hell out of that yak as well, hoping that it'll be close to what my qq will fly like. |

I don't find the yak in the sim to be very realistic. My real yak maybe would fly like the sim if I could drop the weight by 30% and add helium to the wings.

Most real aerobatic planes have them. I believe they are called Helper spades. Take a look at this edge.

Sleepy is correct. They also call them Aero Spades. The help take the weight of the control surface off of the stick so the pilot doesn't have to exert themselves any more than they already are. During full deflection at high speeds, there is a great deal of force trying to shove those ailerons back. They are kind of like having rack and pinion steering on your car versus manual steering.

i must agree that the yak on g4 isn't that realistic in a hover at all! the throttle response necessary is NOTHING like the real thing. as stated above, if you could make it "heavier" it would be a lot closer to reality!
CAUTION.......... If you are going straight from the g4 yak 3d sim to the field and an actual rc aircraft....start high!!!!!!!! it'll fall off on ya!

Yea the g4 yak is cake to hover. But it is very realistic when you do rolling harriers. My Carden Yak feels almost identical to it. But hovering is a little different story. Mostly just in the throttle control though.

G4 sucks balls when it comes to real RC planes..... Don't expect anything in a sim to fly like a real RC plane. Chances are, it won't. I have yet to find one that does.

My guess was the spades aid the pilot by lightening the load on the aileron crontols by pulling a slight amount in the opposite direction of deflection, or try to neutral the stick if you will. Im glad you guys chimed in and confirmed that. Thanks.
As for hovering, I am thinking the extra 330s in the V4 expansion probably hovers more like a real plane, it feels heavier. I have a 3w 330s so I practice with the 330s on the sim alot. I hope my real planes can atleast hover like the 330s, I'll let you know next year. It would be nice if they hovered like the yak though, but like you guys also agreed with, it seems light for aiding training.

They may not ALL fly like the real thing, but I would have to say its realistic enough for me. |
