One problem though, if I cut them off won't that void the warranty? How can their connectors really be that bad? They seemed decent when looking at them. LOL, now I wonder why guys go electric. Somehow when my DA runs good, it's enough to keep me coming back.

No it will not void your warranty. Replace them with deans. They wear out, get sloppy and then you start having ignition problems. Don't sweat it dude. Once you get this hickup worked out, you'll hate glow engines! I edited my post before after seeing your pics. Give it a look.

These replies are coming in fast. That's good! I have only ran one gallon at 50:1. Perhaps that was too much? What upsets me the most is that when I email DA, they never email me back. I've checked all my folders in my email and nothing with several emails. I called once and they told me it's just an rc airplane. I hope they clean this puppy up when I send it back because I'm considering a DL or a 3W. Most likely a 3W and perhaps a twin because my DA50 is shaking pretty good at idle and I've balanced the prop tips and the hub. I've also checked to see if the engine mounting bolts were tight and they are and no my firewall isn't loose. If I touch any spot on my plane at idle, I can feel the vibration. This must be heck on my airframe!

Yes sir, a good cleaning she needs. I would love to strip it down myself, but I'm going to let DA do it just due to the warranty. I will go to Belray for sure. That Amsoil seems good with advertisement and everything, but man does it make carbon. Belray may be twice as much, but if it leads to trouble free running and long lifethan it is worth every penny. The extra cost on oil is still a lot cheaper than a glow engine. Plus I do love gassers and I would have a really hard time going to electric or back to strictly glow. I consider this as a learning curve and expect to have less trouble with future engines. I blame most of my problems on the oil and somewhat on my tuning. Tuning the high end is a piece of cake, but the low end is a bit trickey to me as I have a hard time telling if it is 4 cycling. I tune the low until it quits making the exhaust note that it makes before tuning so I'm pretty sure I'm staying in 2 cycle mode. One thing for sure is that it runs superb in the air. Common knowledge with glow engines is that if it doesn't transition to full after a long idle and doesn't run well in the air would mean that you don't have it tuned right. I pretty much never touched my low end needle on a glow which is nice. These gassers are a bit needy in regards to tuning as you have to mess with both low and high but jeesh I don't think I'm too far off of a good tune. Perhaps the carbon is affecting it. I just don't get how it can run awesome in the air and than have a plug that looks like crap. It's a new ball game for sure for me. This is only my second gasser engine, the first was a us 41cc that always runs like a champ. I wish I had a club with more guys who flew giants so they could listen. My little 50cc is the only giant in my club. Haha, must be time to move I guess. Anyway, I love the savings over glow, the sound, and the size airplane I can get with gas. I'm not giving up on gas, I just have some bugs to work out for now.

Thanks a bunch everyone for all the help. Also, I've got just more than 3/4 of a quart of Amsoil for someone who might like it for free. I'm serious, just pay for the shipping!

Yes sir, same here. I have heard a lot of good and than some bad. My experience now is a mix. Once she clears up on the ground and heads for the air, it's an awesome engine. Than after refuel it's all back to being a little gremlin. I don't mind messing with it because when it's in the air I'm almost at awe of how nice it sounds and runs. I just have a feeling that what's happening to her isn't good for it and my wallet. DA knows it best so it will go back to them. I sure hope that my having to clear it out after a start after refueling isn't the norm. This is a bit of a pain for a guy who trusts his glow engines to hit full throttle without a clearing out after taxiing out to the runway.

You may be just tinkering with your needles too much. Once it gets a good cleaning, run your oil, no matter if it is belray or you stay with amsoil, don't mix them anyway other than the recommended ratios on the bottle. Amsoil 100:1, but I prefer a tad more oil and amsoil gets nasty even at 100:1. That's why I switched to belray to give it a try. It's much cleaner to me. I don't want you to switch because some guy on the net said it's better, but seeing your pics, it's worth a try to find something cleaner burning. You should never have to adjust your needles all the time. It's pretty much factory settings, and accasionally you might have to "tweak" them just a tad for max performance. Once they are set, you usually don't touch them, nor need to.

Yes, I only tinker with them when I switch ratios. This is about the third time I've done a tuning session. The first was after break in and going to 80:1 Amsoil, the second was when I went to 50:1, and now going to 100:1. I've got about 20 hrs on the engine and I'm at about 1 1/4 out on both needles. As for the engine cleaning it's going back. The muffler though can't go back so I'd like to clean that myself. What's the best way to get the junk out? Also, is it normal to have a bit of carbon? Perhaps not what I have at such a short amount of time in my exhaust?

Thanks again to everyone for the help as it's very appreciated. All info is a big help as I consider myself fairly new to gassers and I need all the help I can get.

Plus I'd probably shatter the ceramic and cut off my finger with the pieces.

Anyway I'm going to fly today because I can't stop flying as I'm addicted! I'm going to toss the 50:1 as DA doesn't recommend it and that sucker is getting 100:1. YEEEAH BABY! Than the naughty little thing is going back to DA when the first snowflakes fall becaues that's when I break out my heli for winter fun! LOL, naughty little thing.

I would not run any mix at 100 to 1 in a second hand weed eater. Does nothing to help your engine.

Carb cleaner will take a lot of gunk out of mufflers. Transmission fluid works as well. You can also put tranny fluid in your cylinder head through the plug socket, put the plug back in and turn it to top dead center and leave it for 24 hrs, remove the plug and drain the gunk out(just don't forget to take it back down on the piston stroke or you'll get sprayed). You'd be amazed at how much will come out. Then you just need to flush it out with more tranny fluid or just gas. That could be a quick way to remove some buildup to keep you going until you send it in. It might clean it enough to make it run right. I'm still not sold on amsoil at 100:1. If you decide to keep using amsoil, run it at 80:1. Don't toast your motor.

Pipercub,

I've had two of the DA 50's, and it sounds like your needles are all out of whack. Here's what I would try. Mix your oil at 50:1. If you need to, go get some Stihl oil that's made to be mixed at that ratio. Also Pennzoil Air Cooled will work great. Set your needles at the factory settings to start with. Odds are, you will end up with the hs needle at 1 1/2 or 1 3/4. If your engine doesn't burble at 1/4 throttle or so while flying, your low needle is too lean. The DA50's like a rich low side. You say it starts fine the first flight of the day. But if you restart with a warm engine, it's difficult and sags. Both my 50's did this if I restarted say 10 minutes after landing. IMO the heat gets to the carb and causes a vapor lock. I actually put a small fan blowing in the cowl to cool it down after landing, and it stopped the problem. On both my engines, the HS needle was more or less open all the way, then you adjusted the low for your transition. Make small adjustments. 1/12th turn then fly a flight and adjust.

Try to find someone that has some experience with tuning a gas rc engine. Once you learn how, they are no more difficult than a glow engine. Just remember that when you lean the low needle on a gasser, you are also leaning the mixture at WOT. Leaning the hs needle does not effect the idle.

I agree! Said this once. You're tuning your engine way too lean on both ends. Go to a Belray H1R mix at 40 or 50:1 and tune the engine properly.

I've heard pretty much all good about Belray. Still don't know why I would go to it when the Pennzoil Air Cooled works well. Guess maybe a cleaner engine if I decide to tear it down and look ?

Never have had anyone answer the question of why use Amsoil at 100 to 1 very well. Personally I would never try it even at 80 to 1 but just what is the advantage supposed to be ?
