Default Strung up: A revolution in 3mm foamy ailerons!

Simpley amazing!

Having only 15 or so flights on my Edge 540 foamy that has counter balances, the counter balances were starting to wear the ailerons out (foam flexing and fluttering) so I had to come up with something to try and make counter balances more effective and not wear out the ailerons and most of all eliminate flutter in high speed aerobatics and just flying precision style...

This is what I came up with.

I'm sure some one has done this before, I didn't really try researching to find out if some one has, but here is my solution

Simple string up the ailerons like you would stringing up a foamy wing.

Instructions:

Take a 2mm carbon rod and cutt it to what ever length you want, just don't go under 1.5". Next, measure and figure where the center and middle of the aileron is, mark that off with a pen and then poke a hole through the aileron with a large T pin. Next, measure and mark your carbon rod pylon and mark the center of it. Next, slide the carbon pylon through the aileron and center it so it has equal distances on the top and bottom of the aileron. Next glue it in with hot glue, foam safe CA, or what ever glue you prefer that is strong. Next, take a sharp razor blade and split the carbon rod no longer then 3mm down the center of the rod on both ends. Next, simpley go from courner to courner with a large T pin and poke 4 holes to slide the thread through the hole. Slide the thread through the holes closest to the control horn and leave about 8 inches hanging from the bottom and then glue on top of the aileron that strand of thread to the aileron using CA or what not. ONLY glue the thread to the holes closest to the control horn or FUSELAGE at this time! Next, try and gentally instert the thread into the split in the carbon rod on top and try and make a straight x shape going onto the other two holes on the tip of the aileron (refer to pictures). DO NOT GLUE THE THREAD TO THE HOLES ON THE TIP OF THE AILERON AT THIS TIME! Simpley do the same process on the bottom of the aileron. When it comes to tieing the bottom aileron thread to the 8" thread hanging from the bottom, be sure that when you do this all the thread lines are tight and do not over tighten them as they will break the aileron. I just tiwsted the thread 3 times together and then pulled them tight and then added a drop of CA and thats it. Once it is all strung up, the aileron will look funky and all twisted. Twist, bend the aileron back to flat leval shape and then once your happy, glue the holes on the tip of the aileron and add a drop of CA to both ends of the carbon pylon securing the thread to the carbon pylon where the split is. Repeat for the other aileron.
Simpley that! Please refer to pictures!

I just flew it again as I was writing this and I am at an aw.
I never was able to fly a 6oz foamy that was made out of 3mm Depron full speed and actually have a fast roll rate without the ailerons fluttering or coming off. HAHA this is awesome! It is also AMAZING how the authority of the ailerons are SOOO MUCH greater! My 6oz Edge 540T foamy actually flies like a 40% er.

This is a must have for all 3mm depron or similar foamies!

EDIT: Note: Carbon fiber strip on the tip of the aileron. feel free to use it or not. I havn't tried it without it yet but will tell when I do.

Thanks bro. Yeah this thing can now handle snaps without a problem. Snap-A-Saurus' are the best!

Full throttle, then bend and SNAP! no issues what so ever!

If done properly, you won't regret it!

It is simply amazing how it improves your roll rate and authority.

You definitely shouldn't need this on a pattern plane like the Vantage...

Pretty cool idea though.
