The criteria for judging freestyles are very clear. It doesn't require a extra, edge, giles, or yak to do well at it. As far as enjoyment of the crowd, Hempels freestyle was a hit.

entertaining is the main criteria ain't it for the crowd..

crowds like to see three things in this order..

1. A huge crash

2. Something that almost crashes

3. A Piper Cub..

At the risk of being cynical, I'm guessing that’s why he flew it. Not to win a freestyle competition but to sell more product.

well duh.......isn't that why invitational pilots get sponsored? To huck products. We all know they can take almost any plane and fly better than most, if not all of us. They are paid (in either money or free products) to fly a companies brand to advertise it and sell it. Some just happen to be part or full owners as well.

I'm sure if Bill had the new Yak done he would have flown that.......but the cub was awesome because it was different. You don't need to win to be a crowd and R/C favorite. Just ask Kyle about that one.

This was no fun fly event. It's a competition and not everyone gets invited. Perhaps someone who might have been more serious about competing missed out on an invitation.

Lucky Luke - How lucky are you? The QQ Yak and DA 100 is such a nice model that Byron, who recently certified mine, went out and bought himself one. Good luck with your build. D. R.
