TT 40% Extra 260

Have some questions for you all-

I am looking at purchasing the TT 40% 260, I will admit one of the major considerations for picking up this model is the cost. Am I going to be disappointed in this airplane and wish I would have picked up an Aeroworks or other manufacture's 40%? If I were to pick up an Aeroworks I figure it would be $800 more (shipping to local hobby shop will be free). $800 would go along way towards the electronics for this airplane. This will be powered by a DA170.

I would....but I would strip it and make it lighter too, JMO. I personaly think the SD is of better quality. Again JMO

I'm beginning the assembly of my SD 40% 260 now.... it is built very good and everyone who has one has been very happy with them... your right for the price you can't beat it.... I've been flying a 35% SD Yak for over a year now and it's still holding up good. Good Luck

Does anyone know what the avergae weight of the TT 40% Extra is? I have seen as high as 43 lbs and as low as 37.5lbs. Seems to be a broad range.

MikeC3D, awesome thread on the Yak, not sure I want to strip one down all together (not sure I have the skill), do you think that some weight could be removed without to complete tear down?

shogunmst, thanks for response, the cost is huge for me right now but still want an airplane that flys well and will take me through Sportsman. Did you buy the carbon tubes and landing gear? seems there is at leat 26-28 ozs in weight by just swapping those.

DBRFORD, You will be very happy with the quality as well as the flight ability of this bird. I have over 150 flights on the one I fly for Cheif Aircraft and I love it alot. With the aid of the CF landing gear and both Wing and stab tubes, I was able to get mine down to 38lbs using the DA170 with KS95 canisters. I also designed a modified set of stabs that have a 5in counter ballances. This mod was done strictly for the hard 3D.

ummm.... I beg to differ. I've had both brands of airplanes as well and SD can't even compare to Aeroworks. But that's my opinion as well.

I have to agree with MikeC3D on this one. I currently own both and the SD/TOC/TT, or whatever they are currently, is as good if not slightly better than the AW.

You could easily remove a lot of weight in the fuse without removing covering, I did. Get the carbon fiber goodies also. BIG difference in weight on those. Just read threw Mike's build thread on his Yak and you should get plenty of info needed to do the job. I have the SD 33% and cut about a 1 1/2 pounds of junk out plus the carbon gear and tube. You will love the way it flys with the weight loss.

Sounds like I am really leaning towards the TT Extra 260. I have another question, I understand that it has provisions for cans but I would like to run full length pipes. Can this easily be modified to run full long pipes?

I have both aeroworks and SD models extra 260 and I think AW quality is better than SD models, But they both are great airplanes, I was very pleased with the SD models extra, they fly really good, Im thinking of buying a 33% TT yak for a DA 85....a friend of mine has one and it is a great flyer.

I have been flying the TT 40% 260 since January and love it, this 260 dose everything great a good all around flyer. Soon the 260 will come with counter balance stabs that defiantly add to the handling of the plane and they will be available to buy as an up grade at a good price.

I have about 150 flights on mine now and love it. I run an older 3W 150, and my plane comes in around 38lbs. I have carbon gear, but stock tubes. I recently purchased and built a 37.5% yak with the expectations of it being a better plane, but truth being told, I like the way the extra feels better. It just seems to be more locked in! I would not hesitate to purchase another one! Great plane for the price!

Thanks to all for helping me make this decision. I am still wondering if putting in full length pipes is going to be major surgery. Anyone know how difficult this will be?
