Hey All:
I just purchased this bird. I will build it over the winter. I am thinking of installing a digital glow driver BUT I really do not know much about them. I need input , please. I searched this site, however, most of the information available was from 2005-2006. Please respond with products you or someone you know is using, and how it works (pros-cons). I will attach it to an OS 1.20 AX engine. I would like it to be able to operate anytime I have the throttle below 1/4 position. This will cover initial start ups and when throttle way back for landings. Thank you for your help!! Smacka

Dont need it. Most useful on inverted 4 cyl engines. Mainly used on them to maintain low, RELIABLE idle.

You won't need it. If you're worried about access to the glow plug, you don't have to. A little hole in the cowl is all you need for access to it. I'm not sure, but I think they also need a battery? You don't want to add extra weight.
Just FYI, I have this plane with a Saito 1.80 and it's awesome. You will have lots of fun!

I recently used onboard glow for the first time on my Saito 220 and I love it. However, I don't think you need it for a 2 stroke and I would only install it on a 4 stroke if you need to add nose weight (the onboard glow needs its own battery - a small one but still weight). I needed to add nose weight anyhow and figured it was worth it. Idles like a charm and it is so cool to just turn on the transmitter and start the engine without the hassle of a glow driver.

Hi All:
Thank you so much for your input. Just one thing less to do I am glad I asked.Just FYI...the particular McDaniels onboard glow driver I was looking at has its own battery built into the orange box. It would have been sweet, had I needed one. So far, this build is going awesome, and the ARF is very high quality!! Thanks again for your help! I cannot wait for spring to maiden this bird
