Default JR12X TX case - useful hint

It has been brought to the team's attention that some JR12X owners have experienced cracking at the upper antenna joint when using the TX case in the manner it was shipped. Here, the TX lies horizontally upon a panel that fits over the lower contents of the case. As the lid is closed, the foam presses on the slightly angled antenna with enough force to possibly crack it over time.

Here's an alternate solution that I have been using that seems to avoid excessive preload on the antenna and thus, the cracking that may result. Simply rearrange the divider panels of the case as shown here to position the TX vertically in the case while still retaining the storage area. The antenna is now angled forward (the direction where it has the largest freedom of movement) and thus has additional clearance with the upper foam. And in this configuration, I can easily store my TX with the neckstrap attached as shown.

I heard JR is coming out with the a case like the old 10-X case. Right now my 10X has the 2.4 module so I bought the foam insides for the Spektrum case and put it in the 10X case so I can leave the antenna on.

Dan,

Is the new case designed specifically for the 12X?

Thats what I was told. You will have the option of either case.

JR should do an exchange program for those of us with the current case. It is almost unusable. I modified my case like the above but you still have to cut the foam out for the antenna to prevent pressure on it. And you have to reposition the antenna up and down everytime you take it in and out. I'm thinking this plastic antenna housing will eventually wear out and crack. The case needs to be at least an inch or more taller.

I haven't cut any foam. But I do push the antenna forward before I lower the lid. It's not been a problem at all since it's designed to move in that direction.

I guess it's all a learning experince since we don't remove antennas anymore like we did on the 72 mhz radios. In fact, it's easier to push the antenna forward compared to removing one when storing the TX.

I really do hope JR does an exchange. I would even pay a small fee as the current case is pathetic. It's as if it was designed for something OTHER than a transmitter.

Okay here's my solution to the case issue. What I did was re-arrange the foam sections so there's one on each side with the compartment piece on the bottom of the case. Then I used one of the dividers set into a slot that the handle on the tx rests against when it's in the case. This holds the tx between it's base which is against the foam piece and the handle so it can't move toward the antenna. I've put another one of the foam pieces on that side just in case it moves and that area below is where I keep my strap, extra battery and bind plugs. Then I take the big foam section that the antenna was supposed to fit in (but doesn't) and turn it on it's side across the bottom of the face of the tx. That is thick enough it applies a little pressure from the foam in the lid to the tx keeping it against the foam in base and it doesn't move around at all. I too wish they'd get with the program on a new case design, but this is working for me in the meantime....
