I have a large desire to spend a few bucks on a new plane.
I have narrowed it down to two choices: The 50 cc Aeroworks YAK 54 in the new colors The 88inch (50cc-60cc) Extreme Flight Yak 54 in red and white I have my finger ready to click confirm on the Extreme Flight, which would you choose? Thanks I was committed to the Aeroworks but that Extreme flight has been recommended a few times! Plus it has CF tubes and wing bags included! |

The Aeroworks seems heavy, you can't beat the quality though. A lot of guys say the Extremes are good though. Nobody has an unlimited amount of money so I always try to buy cheaper, sometimes you get what you pay for and sometimes it seems to end up the cheaper product is better. It's a tough one, but I like the colors of the Extreme so I think I might buy one as well.

Extreme flight. I have flown three aeroworks yaks, a 50cc, an 80cc,and owned a 100cc. They ALL flew like crap. Too heavy and wing rocked like nothing I've ever flown. The extras are great but I wouldn't recommend any yaks from them.

That exteme flight extra 260 build pics look really good. I like how the canopy is attached and I like that there's more wood supporting the motor box compared to my Airwild 260. My 260 just seems too light to me. Simple works sometimes, but sometimes it doesn't and I think the extreme has a lot of good engineering and design to keep strength there and weight. I think you can't go wrong with either and if you ask me the Extreme seems like a better value. I'm about ready to go for one over the aeroworks. I'll let you know. Now where is my sponsor card???? Hmm, here's my Visa!

Wow man, the Aeroworks flew like crap with wing rock? It is funny how a lot of people say the building is great, but to me the flying is a bit more important. If it flies super great, but doesn't last as long as a crappy flier that you won't fly anyways because it flies like crap than why buy the crappy one as you won't even fly it. LOL, planes are meant to fly and not just look good sitting.
![]() It looks like an Exteme for me! Here I was planning on a 150cc Aeroworks in the near future two years or so. Scratch that, I guess I'd be smarter to build a Carden?

you'll love the EF plane... this is by far the best of the best of the 50cc birds. it presents like a 100cc plane and is built VERY well! good luck with this project....you'll love it!!!!!

I owned the Aeroworks 50cc Yak and flew about 200 flights. I currently own the 88" EF Yak and it is a whole different bird. Weights are probably similar, but the EF flies much lighter. 150 flights on this plane and still can't believe how good the plane is. I have the 110" EF Yak to complete and anticipate it to be truly world class.

Seriously though, Extras are just damn nice flyin' planes. They do exactly what they are told to do and quick ! That said "crap" is a little harsh for any modern model design doncha think ? Yaks fly like Yaks. Until they make it an Extra with a round cowl and I think at least two out there are just that. Caps fly like Caps until you make an Extra with cheeks. Hmmm. Seem to be a common factor here ? I want a Cap with the wing dead on the bottom and the horizontal stab dead on the top of the turtle deck. Then you have a Cap. Oh yeah, the landing gear have to be mounted on the wing.

I have had both...get the EF Extra...lighter...more balanced....and just better built plane. Service from both companies are excellent...You will be please with either one...but the EF is a step above..and is actually a quicker build than the QB series...I had mine put together in 2 days.

The quality and QB aspect of the AW planes make them very attractive. I've never had an EF plane, but I have also heard great things about the Yak and Extra. They're both great planes!

Before anybody gets it twisted, I am NOT saying Aeroworks planes suck. The extras fly as well as anything out there. I've flown 2- 100cc'ers and 2- 150 cc'ers and they were great. Even my yak was extremely well built, it just flew like crap. I had a half pound of lead in the tail with an already "tail heavy" CG and it just wouldn't lock into a harrier. It's all hunky dorie for IMAC and did me well for it, but for 3D, I'll never own another and my fellow clubmate said the same after neither of us could get his 80cc to perform. I agree that yaks fly like yaks and extras fly like extras, but I have flown a couple yaks that flew better than my AW and were solid in high alpha flight. This IS only my opinion and if there are more folks out there that can get their AW yaks to 3D better, I applaud them. I did enjoy my yak until I started trying some hard 3D. It just wasn't up to my standards for what I expected it to be. I'm much happier with a 260 now.

Another issue to consider, there are many AW YAKS at my field, the Extreme Flight might just be the ticket! I have owned a few extras and I'm currently flying a scratch built 83inch Sukhoi, I think I may be flying an 88 inch EF YAK soon! Thanks again! Steve |

Steve, do a build thread if you can as I'd like to see some good pics of the quality.
Have you considered a Que Someneski (sp?) Yak?
