Default new Xoar PJX - Eagle Nose prop, interesting observations

Hi fellas.

I thought you may be interested in the results of a prop test I've ran.

I have been running 22x8 Xoar props on my Brillelli 46 attached to a 35cc Aeroworks Extra 260.
I've been very pleased with them overall.

Last weekend I dumbthumbed and snapped my last 22x8. I had a 20x10 Xoar lying about, so I put it on until I could get some more 22's.

The difference in lack of High Alpha stability was staggering. Where there was virtually no wing rock before, now it had turned into a seesaw.

I suppose, obviously, the lesser diameter airflow caused the lack of stability. So I thought to myself, well, if a 22 is that much more stable, then a 23 would be even better. Unfortunately, with the 46, I don't have the umpf for a 23x8, so I poked about for a 23x6 - couldn't find any such animal.

Then I ran across the new Xoar PJX - Eagle Nose prop. You may have seen them, with the hooked tips?

Figured I'd give one a try. Since I couldn't put a 23 on, the 22x8 hooktip may be the next best thing. Although I'm not an aeronautical engineer, my reasoning was that an outer percentage of props must be inefficient due to airflow sliding laterally off the blades, so the hook tips "should" direct more airflow that a conventional 22x8 can backwards over the airframe.

Result... WOW!!!! They say the hooktip produces more thrust and less noise. I notice a VERY little thrust increase while losing about 60 rpms. No noise difference that I can hear, but I didn't put it on a db meter. But the overall stability is WAY better than the conventional 22x8, High Alpha stability is drastically improved.

My conclusion is that if you don't have the engine to go a prop size up, try a Xoar PJX - Eagle Nose as the next best thing.

The results for me have been very positive.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Cool. I'd be very interested in seeing if you get the same kind of results. Please let us know how it works out.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Try this place http://www.justmodelprops.com/produc...carbon-tipped/

I have one 23X10 Eagle nose on my DA60 and like it way better that the 24X8 laminated. Better stability and it doesn't rip.

Default Xoar eagle nose

I have a 30 X 12 on a old QQ Yak 120 , Totally transformed the plane into a 3d animal , and it weighs almost 42 lbs. But , it does make a lot of noise.
