Default 14mz stick pot issues?

Hi all,

Just a quick one out there for those with 14mz's. I am curious how many others have had issues with the pots on there radios and what was the outcome as far as repair costs when sent back to futaba for repair.

I have recently encounted a couple of problems with my 14mz which I believe at this point (radio has now been sent for inspection and repair via the local futaba importer here in Australia and will more than likely be sent to Japan).

Both problems I believe relate to the stick pots.

1st problem Being a mode 2 flyer with both elevator/aileron control on the same stick, I found I would intermittently get a huge aileron input when applying elevator input. This is not a case of inadvertantly input aileron at the same time as elevator. Even when making absolutely sure the aileron has stick has not been deflected at all, a signal would still be sent to the aileron channels. This could be clearly seen in the servo monitor screen. The aileron inputs could spike as high are 50% .

The other problem is with the throttle/rudder stick. Similiar to the elevator/aileron stick, I get intermittent rudder input occasionally when moving the throttle. Again this can be clearly witnessed in the servo monitor screen. The other thing that occurs is that after a rudder stick movement the control input does not consistently return to the absolute centre position. Can be seen clearly in the Rudder AFR screen. Could be 1 or 2 % off in either direction.

Naturally this causes some interesting issues when trying to fly IMAC. But being a heli flyer as well it causes the heli tail to go crazy!

So I am interested in hearing from others that my have had similiar experiences and what the outcome was for you.

cheers,

Jeff.

P.S

who is already missing having my radio after 3 weeks and have been told not to expect it back for at least another 6 weeks

I had the encoders & resistors replaced in my 12Z, they use the same part as the 14mz. There is an encoder and restistor for each axis. They changed them free of charge and my 12Z was 2.5 years old. My problem was a bad stutter/oscillation at center on my aileron.

Last month, my 2.5 yr old 14MZ stopped maintaining center on the ailerons or elevators as well. I sent it in and had it back in my hands about 9-10 days later. Works like a charm now...

My turn around time was also very fast, two weeks at the most.

I had my left pot (Throttle/Rudder) do the same thing, moving the Throttle would cause the Rudder to deflect 40 degree's, saved it all three times. I got it to repeat on the ground by hitting the side of my TX and the Rudder deflected, big time scarey. Futaba warrenty the repair and had it done in less then two weeks. They were great about it.

I sent my 14MZ TX in for service and Krysta had the encoders/sticks replaced free of charge.
They are top in my books for quality and service.

Thanks for the replies guys, I am some what encouraged. I can only hope Futaba in Japan (and my local importer) is as reasonable.

Jeff
