I just picked up a Nitroplanes Giles 202. It calls for a 120 to 140 4 stroke. I have a couple of engines in mind but I am not sure what would be best. Here are the specs on the plane.
Wingspan 72"I am considering a G-26 but it may be too heavy, Saito 150, or possibly a Evolution 26GX but I don't have any experience with this one. Any suggestions? Comments on the Evolution? I like the economy of gas but I want good performance so I want to keep the weight down. |

The 3W looks like a great engine but I think it is a little too much for this plane.
If anyone has any opinions on the Evolution please let me know. |

I did some more research on the Evo 26. It seems the ignition is heavy, expensive to replace, and requires 6+Volts to run it. The all up weight may be too high. Is this plane a bad candidate for a gas engine? If gas is a bad idea I will use the Saito I guess.

Saito 180...good weight and power for this size... any gasser would do but weight would be an issue...... or an OS 160 2 stroke,,, if u dun mind the sound,,,

Hiway,
I had the CMP Giles 202 140 with a Brillelli 26cc gasser and the power and weight were fine. Very nice flying plane. The 26cc wouldn't give total unlimited vertical but it flew the plane fine. That engine was turning a 17X6 APC at about 8400 rpm. The 26cc gassers now a days will turn the same prop close to 10,000 rpm which should fly the plane a lot better. I'm currently flying a Sig Rascal 110 with a Zenoah G26 with the same prop and it's getting around 9600 rpm but it is still new. It will gain rpm's as it gets a little time on it. |

Thanks for the input on the 26. I am looking at a couple of light weight 26 size gas motors now. The weight seems to be OK. I am considering the RCGF 26 or the MLD-28. The weight of both with everything but the ignition battery is under 40oz.

Remember to consider the RTF weight with fuel. The gasser will need half the tank size as a glow as you probably know so you'll have a lighter plane on takeoff without waiting to burn up some fuel. I have always wanted to get a gasser that I could put into an old GP .60 sized G202 that I have. It didn't have much vertical with a 90 4 stroke so I always thought of putting in an OS 90 2 stroke but never have. I know a 26cc gasser would do for power but than again comes up the weight issue. I do like the 1.20 sized planes as they're more affordable and still giant scale, but I ended up just going to 50 cc myself for the best weight to power ratio while only being a bit more than a 1.20.

Hello.
I used to have Giles 202 with MvvS 26 gasser. In this combination you will need tuned pipe. I think 3W 28 is perfect choice. LINK: http://forum.modelarji.com/viewtopic...ighlight=giles Have fun. |

I agree, the 3w28 with pipe is probably the one choice in this class of engine that will get you the power you are looking for. At the weight these things come in at, a lightweight 40cc would not be out of the question, like a ZDZ and you could then get away without having a nice piped setup.

too small for gas.. a little bit of a tippy rock... I had a YS140 in mine.. I would put an OS160 in it with Pitts muff and a Perry pump...

why is it to small for gas ??? i dont think so ! ... the engine (CRRC gf 40i is just 1315 grams including muffler and ignition ) and swings a 20x8 prop wiht no problem ... so why have a nitro engine that uses loads of fuel ?? i got a 250cc tank and its good for about 10-12 min of heavy use of the throttle it just perfect for me ... but how it flies i do not yet know but no need for dead weight to get the cg correct i think that power to weight ratio is great the model is about 5,5 kilos and thrust is set to ca 7,5 kilos and of what one can se from films on the tube the palne flies without any problems
