Default Hangar 9 Funtana X50 Build Thread!!!

Well, i figure since the other "build thread" farther down on this page didnt get going, i'd start up another one!

I figure new airframe, why not do my first build thread on it??

My ARF should be here tuesday (10/28), along with my r/x battery and dubro pin hinges from tower hobbies. Being as I do the whole college thing during the week, i'll try and get as much done up as I can. Should be a pretty easy straight forward build from what i've been reading on other sites.

Just to give you a rundown of the equipment i'll be running:

JR 8103 (PCM)
JR R790 SPCM receiver
3x Hitec 475 HB's (ailerons and elevator)
1x JR DS821 (rudder)
1x JR ST47BB (throttle)
Hydrimax 5c 6.0v 2000 mah Receiver Pack
JR standard switch
Thunder Tiger 91 4 stroke (yea, i know, shes heavy. but i had her in a similar sized yak without any weight problems)

I think that covers it all.

Well, if any of you have anything to throw in, feel free to do so. Can't wait to get this build going!!

Default Re: Hangar 9 Funtana X50 Build Thread!!!

Alrighty folks!! today was the day..The big white truck (FedEx) dropped off my package at around 10:30 AM this morning. I came to the door to find that they even put them in plastic bags (since it was raining out) so +1 for Fedex.

Now here come the minueses for Horizon hobby. First thing, they dont double box nothin! Just one measily cardboard box outside of the precious FX50 box on the inside. When i got the FX box out, it was crushed up on the ends, and had some damage in the middle. . I wasn't happy. Opened it up, and found that preliminary check revealed no damage to the stuff inside.

Well, big flippin whoop to preliminary checks. Upon unboxing and unbagging all the stuff inside, it seemed like a 4 yr old put together and covered this thing. Covering was wrinkled everywhere except on the horizontal stab and elevator halves. All the "precut" covering holes look like someone did it with a rusty old pocket knife, and i've never seen it where the balsa was splintery on the precut parts. Aren't these things laser cut???!!!

Closer inspection reveals that there is damage to the rudder. Not really "damage" but the way they packaged it, the wing squished down on it deforming the balsa structure. Also, the quality of the wood used in the, i guess deck area you would call it (where the pilot would be), is garbage. all brown and nasty and there are huge gaps in the wood joints there. Also, the covering in that area is burnt to heck! I mean, its not even sealed down and its still burnt.

The hardware pack is very nice. Packaged in like 8 gagillion layers of bubble wrap, is includes all the hinges, wheels pants (really really hefty wheel pants), nice rubber wheels, nylon bolts, tail wheel etc. If only they packaged their important airframe parts as well as they packaged their hardware, i wouldnt be sitting here typing this.

(sorry about the long post) But, i'm not going to call them and complain just yet. I'm going to see what work i can do to get this ARF up to where i think it should be. If at that point it, it doesnt seem right still, Horizon is getting an angry phone call......I'll have some pics up later today.
