Well...Lighten one up of course.
But seems noone wants to part with one, and I'm not about to pay $2k for a new one to strip down. There was a guy in Georgia somewhere said he would sell his airframe for $500 when his new plane came in, I cant find that post or remember who it was. Others want way too much for a used airframe also, $1200+ is a bit much for a used plane 3-4 yrs old. |

Thanks, I contacted him......waiting for reply.
Although in the thread he said he wont ship it, so I would have to drive to Ga to get it, not likely. Last edited by MikeC3D; 02-09-2009 at 02:45 PM. |

I have one of these baby's, and it is a great plane. I also have the 40% Yak from SD model, and I followed your thread where you and Bob got rid of some wood. My Ulti weighs 17.6 kg (38.8lbs)ready to go, with a 3W 150 QS and Johnson Mufflers. I would say it is a very light airframe. I am also in the process of making a Ultimate which is 92%, using the H9 as a guide. I have between 2-300 flights on mine, and it has some scratches from being transported in my car, and also from being lifted in and out of the house. So I want to re cover the plane after this years season.
When you say you want to make it lighter, I'm there, but I'm not sure where you start removing wood. You could do what you did with the Yaks engine box, since they are the same, but I think that's about it. The whole canopy is heavy, the Yak's is much lighter and twice the size, so maybe you can loose some weight there too, but how much, I don't know. I have not seen how the wings are made, but they are pretty light, so I don't think you'll find much to remove there either. But I know for sure, you will find something What I can say is, the older versions of the H9 is heavier than the new ones. There is a guy here in Norway who bought one, when H9 introduced them some years ago. He has the same set up as me, and his model weights 21 kg (46.2lbs). I have not seen his model, so I do not know the difference. There are 3 other models that I know of, and one of them was bought the same day as mine, it has a DA 150 and canisters, and the rest of the setup is similar to mine, but not the same. That one is 18 kg (39.6lbs). And there is one who has a 3W 157CS, I'm not sure of the setup, but his is older than mine, and weighs 19.5 kg. (42.9lbs). And the last one weighs 20 kg (44lbs). And that model is about 2 years old.So I hope you find one, and I will subscribe, so I can make mine even lighter eventually. ![]() But if your gonna use your 170cc engine, I don't see why you need to make it lighter. If you where going to use the new 3W 110cc I would understand

I'm currently "resurrecting" a H-9 Ultimate and have stripped the entire airframe in order to do so.
Here are the measurements for different components: Fuselage (nothing on it, nothing in it) 6 lb 5 oz Hatch 9 oz Stab 7 oz Vertical 8 oz Rudder 4 oz Elevators 7 oz Top Lft Wing (no ailerons) 1 lb 3 oz Top Rt wing 1 lb 3 oz Bot Lft Wing 1 lb 3 oz Bot Rt Wing 1 lb 3 oz Ailerons 9 oz CF cabane plate 4 oz Cabanes 7 oz Interplane Struts 8 oz Wing tube lower 7 oz Wing tube upper 11 oz (with wood inserts to hold wing screws) Cowl 1 lb 2 oz Landing gear (with axles) 1 lb 9 oz Wheel pants 6 oz Wheels Dubro 4.5" 8 oz If I hit the keys on the calculator correctly I come up with 19 lb 6 oz Again this is with no equipment, plane stripped off all covering, no tailwheel Last edited by Hinckley Bill; 02-10-2009 at 09:39 PM. |

I think you need to ship it to me right now ...or else. :Banane36:
Actually, now is the perfect opportunity to shed some weight, and b4 its said theres nowhere to take off weight...trust me there is always weight that can come off. I bet the empennage is beasty itself....motorbox, lg area and so on, if your were to just sand some and get 1oz. off in 16 areas, thats 1lb. |

Besides weight for me the way the thing is bolted together needs some redo. The Goldberg 1.20 size ultimate had a trick way that the top wing attached with a piece off music wire going throw the cabanes and wing. I think this idea would be neat to use on the bigger one for the interplane struts. And I like what Rosco has done with the new Aeroworks version. They have made the Horizontal Stab an airfoil shape so no flying wires and then it can be removable.
All this would be fun but someone would have to give me one free for it to be worth the head scratching and work to do over. |
