I love the red and black Extra 300, and the Russian Thunder Yak! It's a must have.

I received my 107" yellow yak, dl-100, carbon fiber package on Wednesday November 12, it was shipped on Monday, November 10th. AMAZING!!! The covering work is excellent, not a single wrinkle or sag. I'm stunned with just how big this airplane is. The cowl is as large as a 4 gallon bucket. My previous airplanes are 50cc and these monster wings make them look like toys. Be advised the crate for the fuselage is 8 feet and the wing box is 28"x 52" so plan your pickup vehicle (if needed) accordingly (shipped to your work rather than home for you flamers). The crate is perfect, 3/8" oak plywood that took about 5 minutes to pry open.

The wings are 26" at the root and 14" at the tip and are 50" long if you are searching for a wing bag. Tony from Pilot-RC indicated that he is going to sell a wing bag in the near future.

The hatch is 9 1/2" wide where the rear pilot would be mounted, the pilot could be 8 1/2" wide and fit in mount area. The canopy is 7" tall for the rear pilot. The canopy is already glued on but the back plate for the hatch is a very light piece of rigid foam so canopy access is very easy. I will be putting in a scale master (cajun-rc) 30% pilot (7x 5 1/4"). The floor of the cockpit is covered with silver covering so this could be interesting to get a good gluing surface.

The width of the fuselage with the tail fully assembled is 42" for people needing to plan their transport vehicle needs. Of course the horizontal stabilizers come off if needed.

Landing gear is carbon fiber and is molded into an airfoil shape. It makes my graph-tech landing gear look like it was made by kindergartners.

Servo distances to help with extensions:
Aileron 1 bay is 13" from the wing root. In other words, if the servo lead length was a total of 13" it would just be at the wing edge.
Aileron 2 bay is 32" to the wing root.
Elevator servo is 48" from the first possible point to mount the receiver. Sorry, not much help here since there isn't a mounting platform for the receiver that I can see. There is a designated place for the dual batteries.

Rudder, this knocks me over every time I think about it (maybe its standard on 100cc's and above). The rudder comes pre-hinged along with the vertical stabilizer. When I first took the airplane out I thought that is going to be a real treat to try to get the pins in and seal the gap. Later I was looking at the rudder and noticed a hole in the top on the hinge pivot line. Early I found a long metal rod in the package and was wondering what it was for. I then realized that this rod, the height of the rudder was both the hinge pin for all the hinges and the gap seal. This could also allow the rudder to be removed for transport but I'm going let the flying wear out the hinges rather than transportation. INCREDIBLE design!!

As stated before the airplane does not come with a manual and I have yet to find something that would need a manual to describe. The accessories in the kit are perfectly packaged. The only thing I'm not going to use is the servo arms. I'm going to stick with metal servo arms.

My one disappointment with the finish of the airplane is the color match of the cowl. It is darker than the covering and I'm guessing will get darker with age as most yellows do.

I’ll continue my updates, I’m still deciding if I’m going to steal servos from my 28% (Hitec 5955) or buy new (Hitec 7955). It’s hard to take apart a perfectly good airplane. If I do buy new servos it is going to be a while before I will be able to fly the airplane. The Minnesota weather has a lot to say as well J

Hi Tony

Thanks for posting the pics on the Extra 300

For all the guys complaining about the Extra being a copy of the EF extra, check out the photos, I have a EF extra and the construction is vastly different even the wing ribs are different.

I bought a EF extra 300 50cc locally here in South Africa and paid an exorbitant price for it, I could have bought a hangar nine 100cc extra 260 for 2/3rd of the price of the EF extra. I could have bought a Pilot RC extra for half the price of the EF extra.

Its a pity the large US companys dont give major Dealer discounts to other countrys like SA

To put it in perspective my EF extra (50cc) cost R9700 the exchange rate at the time was R7 to the US dollar so I paid US dollars 1385 for a 50cc arf. the pilot rc extra 260 (100cc) costs R 7800 for the carbon version. I could have bought a 100cc extra for less than I paid for my 50cc extra and still had money left over for servos. Oh well live and learn. I think the EF kits are great but where I live I dont think they will do well because of the price.

I think Pilot RC and Cerebus.co.za are the best thing that can happen to Large Scale Aerobatics in South Africa.

Tony keep up the good work and you will be rewarded with loyal customers like myself, I am allready working on my custom scheme for a 100cc 260 which I hope to order early next year.

I dont mean to step any toes I am just stating facts

Looks like some of the other guys had better look out for the new kid on the block! From what I'm reading and hearing here these planes are going to be a real stir! John at TBM said they are going to stock them and would be selling them after the first of the year.

Well, I hope everyone knows how pleased I am with the 100cc Pilot-RC Yak. These are really nice airplanes. Compared to my identically equiped SD Yak, it is more than 2 pounds lighter! That is BIG !!

I'm waitin' on YOUR plane also. I'm looking forward to how accurate they can do your scheme delievery time paint and covering quality etc.

Since my project has been pushed back by yet another injury (not RC related this time) I see a chance to get my Patty Wagstaff 260 instead of the one I was planning. The planes look good to me.

I thought the same thing. It is what it is. Try and make it work or try and make it fail.

Hi Jim
Thank you for your suggestion on the color match of the cowl. I will fix this problem right now. you are welcome to give me good advice and good suggestion.
Manual is making by TBM. it will be finished soon.
Thank you.

Hey Jim glad to hear that you have got the yellow flame yak I was begining to think my colour choice was bad and that I was the only one with this colour scheme. What I noticed with the cowl was also that the colour didnt match, that was indoors late at night with the lights on. The next morning when I had the airframe outside in the natural light the cowl to covering yellow almost matched up perfectly. So maybe give that a try and then you could be 110% happy with your yak as I am.

Your comments on the rudder were exactly how I also thought about it at first. I put the rod in from the bottom and struggled then when I put it in from the top it only took 1min
