Default JR 12x -- Slight humming noise

All,

I have a JR 12x that has developed a slight humming noise. It sounds like a slight electrical hum of some sort. Is this normal? Is it something I need to send into Horizon to have it looked at. Still range checks 90-100 paces as though nothing's wrong, but thought I'd pose the question here. Does anybody else's transmitter do this by chance?

Also, I had a strange situation where I had charged up the transmitter, waited a day, then went to the field and flew. Half way through the second flight, the transmitter started beeping... looked down at it was at 9.0v. Landed immediately without issue. Turned it off and on and still showed only 9v. Several hours later at the house, turned it back on and it now shows 10.1v and seems to stay there. Again, not sure what's happening. Is it the battery? Did I somehow mischarge it with the charger included with the transmitter perhaps? Or is it something internal to the transmitter?

Again, any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Gerry

Mine hums a little. Havent had the battery do what yours did. Dont think you did anything wrong with charging it since all you do is plug it up to the cords provided.

you need to read the manual. It will usually answer all the first-order questions like these.

Teryn,

Does the manual answer anything about a humming noise? Didn't ever notice anything in there, not to mention the strange behavior of the voltage. Again, I've never had a transmitter hum before, so wanted to know if this is something that is the norm with the 12x from fellow FG users. Again, as far as I know, not covered in the manual.

Mine doesnt have a humming sound but my battery does drain down very quickly

The one strang thing my 12x did is the screen went blank, i still had control of the plane but couldnt see anything on the screen. Then out of no wear it just came back on, turning the radio on and off didnt fix it or the screen brightnes didnt fix it, it just went out and then came back on out of the clear blue, not had any more problems sence

While I do not own the radio, I have looked through the manual quite extensively...

I cannot find it....
Could you please provide a page number for this information?

I have two 12X's, no battery problems, one does make a little noise but never had any issues with it. I'm pretty sure my 9303 made a slight noise also, 100's of flights with no problems. Call Horizon if you're really concerned, but I doubt there's anything wrong.

I had a 10X with Spektrum module and now the 12X. Both hum while they are transmitting. Based on my experience and what others have said about all the Spektrum products, this is normal.

I have the Spektrum DX7 channel. It hums loud enough that I called Horizon and asked about it. They said it was normal. I've never had an operational problem. I've owned the radio at least a year.

Tom,

Good one.... humming to the music, right? I do that all the time when I don't know the words

I was just worried the humming was drawing an amperage spike causing the voltage to drop sporatically. Again, just worried since the voltage dropped unexpectedly, then returned as though nothing happened. Not my typical experience with a battery failure of some sort. Normally they'll either short and die or dropped quickly down and stay down. Again, worred something in the transmitter had gone wrong, hence the questions.

Worst case I"ll send it in, but at least it sounds like the humming is normal on the 2.4Gzh JR transmitters. Battery/voltage sporatic issue sounds to be a separate issue.

Thanks!

Gerry

I just recieved a response from Horrizon concerning that very same issue with my new 2.4 Ghz 9303. They said it is normal for them to make a slight hum. As far as your battery issue, I would replace that sucker before I used it again. You would not have a good day loosing control of your plane due to a faulty TX battery. Just my two cents.
