I would prefer a 3W always. But between those two choices I would substitute the 3W 200 for a 3W 170. Monster engine. Imagine hovering a 40 pound plane at 1/4 throttle...

i have found on FG many threat that would say that DA 170 is an extreemly powerful engine .
between a da and a 3W well the DA was the number one choice

Either will do the job and then some. I have a 3W 170CS for my 40% Pitts. Others have the DA 170 on the same plane. I have had great success with my DA's but wanted to try a 3W this time (that and I couldn't get a DA170... now it seems they have some limited availability)

Both have great service. The DA 170 is cheaper than the 3W 170CS by quite a lot. The standard 3W 170 is about the same I believe. Both will turn a 29x12x3 with authority and will be plenty for your Yak.

You could also consider the ZDZ Super 160.

The 210 is an extra 2lbs and not needed unless you are at like 47+lbs IMO.

what is the wight of the pits ?
is the 3W reliable in terms of leaking or tuning? i used to have a 3W 100cc that used to cut during flight but thats a 3 years old story, it crashed my plane 3 times .
but i am hearing good feed back recently

Go 3W 170. You will not need the 210. 44 pounds is nothing for the 170. My 170 works flawlessly and pulls like a freight train. Or you can buy the DA. Both will work fine, but I heard today that the 170 is still a few more weeks out..

I am building a 40% TT Yak and i have the 3w210 on it. If you are building this particular airframe than i would go with the 210. If it is a lighter less draggy of a plane than the 170 would go fine... I do prefer 3w.

The 3w210 on a 31x12 Mejzlik 3 blade gives airframe very constant speed if you are doing schedules and extremely quiet. The 3w 170 is what id put on plane for 3D, revs out good and lighter. The 210 power isn't immediately obvious unless you get to days where the 170 starts to struggle i.e. hot days and so on.

Just curious...why 3W over DA...for the same size engine. Im sure 3W is great...but DA is king here in the U.S....and other places.

My reason was that when I called DA (early September I think) I could not get one and they said there were a lot of issues they were working on. I understand they re-did some parts and got those issues sorted out. Now there is a big back order list to fill (some people seem to be getting them no trouble though.) I witnessed a lot of 85cc issues at the fields here. I had 3 DA igntions fail this summer. So I decided I would try something else for a change like a 3W or ZDZ 160.

I love DA. I have 2 100's and a 150 still. 3W is a well known beast - makes tons of power which a big Pitts (46/47lbs stock - mine is around 43lbs) would need.

On the 3W - the ignition is known to not like heat and some people have had failures. I put a CH on mine. I have gone CH on my DA 150 also. The other item that seems to help the 3W is the aluminum reed cage block (standard on the CS now.)

The 3W is more aggressively ported and they have a reputation for making more power than DA cc for cc. I have no first hand experience of that yet...

I have had excellent service from Aircraft International also ... just as good as DA so far.

Good stuff...I just got my DA-170...is mounted and ready to maiden this weekend. From the ones I have seen fly..the DA-170 is a beast. They also have great customer service...One of these days I will probably try a 3w...but likely when I do the Bill Hempel Yak 55... ...3W 275...gots to be a ton of power.
