That Hempel Yak has me salivating also. But I would need a bigger trailer (and probably and bigger garage and a divorce) to get one LOL.

cc for cc the 3W's will make more power. many guys have complained about the constant need for "tweeking" the 3W's but i have several of them and really haven't had to do a thing other than switch to the aluminum reed block.
i replaced a nice DA 100 on my 2.6 comp yak with a 3W 106toc and it is a HUGE power difference. i have replaced my da 150's with the 3W 157 and there is a BIG difference there as well. i now have a 3W170cs with the 3W cans and i am installing it in my 42% dalton mel extra 300. this should absolutely be a rocket. aircraft international's service is atleast as good as DA's in my opinion. granted, gerhard always sounds a bit cranky but hey, he's german and just sounds that way. he is really quite nice and VERY knowledgable.. they are fast as well. anyway, the 3W's would get my vote for sure... but like a few have said, the 170 is all you want for the 40-44 lb bird. the 210 is just added weight and not necessary! good luck and happy flying! matt

going to be pretty close in power but I would consider the fact that the 3W has been out in the market so it would count for something . As for 170 Vs 210 , I prefer which ever fits the plane the best . There seems to be about 1 Kg between the two sizes so if the plane NEEDS the power and can handle the weight the go for the 210 . If your plane needs to be as light as possible but still with good power then you cant go wrong with the 170 . Stu

I have used an "early-production" DA-170 all season long with MTW RE-3 pipes. The engine run flawlessly from the beginning. It's just like with the DA-150: Take it out of the box, fit it in your plane and fly it. So, the argument that the 3W 170 has been out for a longer time should not make a big difference. Besides I think the DA is considerably lighter than the 3W. Jean-Claude

there seems to be a breaking in difference... with all my DA's... (I have had two 150's andone 100)... it seemed like after flight number 4, the motor was broke in and the needles could be welded in place....
I am up to 14 flights on a WWW170 I bought used (with maybe 15 flights)... and it is still growing in power and the needles need a little leaning. Sick power on my SX! Lets see though if I can go 400 flights without a mishap!!!??? |

I've also had 3 3W engines, and had no need to send in for service. I won't even knock on wood this time.

i have my DA 170 on a TT yak 54 40% , till now i did 6 flight with it and it is still growing in power i know that it need at least 3 galon to start having its full potential but now i can hover easily with spare power to climb away from the hovering . i am sure after few flight it will give me much more power . i am happy with it.
PS my plane is designed for a 200cc engine. so DA 170 is = to 200 cc in performance
