So here goes ... I have a new position as Asst Resident Advisor at a Boys Ranch for troubled kids. (Note: none of these kids are in trouble with the law, and we'd like to keep it that way. They are here for a number of different resons, mianly centered around family stresses.) We're looking for activities to get the boys interested in and give them something to work towards outside of school. We have the horses, sheep, cows and the 4-H thing, but some of the kids are just not into that.
So if you like to show off just a little, we'd like to set up a time to either have you come to the ranch, or if close enough, bring some of the boys to your club field on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Eventually, if enough of them are interested, I'd like to see them start their own club, or join a nearby club. The ideal situation would be to have the boys see an awesome 3-D flying demo by one or more pilots, and then be given the opportunity to try flying a trainer on a buddy box. Please PM me or post if your club, or individually anyone is able to show off for these kids. We are in Belen, NM about 50 miles south of Albuquerque. |

I think this is a great idea!
If only I was closer I would like to help. I have a couple old trainers that I pulled out of the dumpster and put back together to give someone that is wanting to get in the hobby but not able to b/c of any reason If you want to start a donation or something to help with your new idea let me know and I will see what I can dig up for you. I know I have a bunch of glow motors that just got thrown in a box in the garage that would work great. (o.s. 46's and such) |

Thanks for the input and encouragement. We'll get to work on this.
Twiz...got your PM's, I'll let you know if I get approval to build a runway here at the ranch. FSFD...I am checking, but we are a non-profit organization, so I think donations of time or items would be tax deductible...if not, they certainly would be appreciated. But I really think we should have a demo and buddy session, and then see how many of the boys really want to get involved first. (does FS = Fort Smith?) |
