[quote=tomatocan;778510]Ken6881....I'm getting 12 minutes out of my 14 ounce tank with about 4 ounces to spare. I'm flying pattern maneuvers and mild 3d the whole time. Engine only has 1 gallon through it so far, so it should get better after break in when I lean the bottom. On the stock tank I could fly about 20 minutes and still have roughly half the tank left. What engine are you running? I'm at 6000 feet of elevation, too....so there is less air up here which could account for some of the lower fuel consumption. I don't know....I thought 1 ounce per minute was pretty normal with 50cc planes.....I'm pretty close to that....a little under. I feel like I lose concentration at much more than 10 or 12 minutes at a time. Can you run IMAC with this plane?....I wanted to try it (there is a meet in Fort Collins coming up), but the guys over here said you have to use a scale plane. What prop are you using?
quote] You can fly anything in basic. I have and will be competing in basic. I have a DA 50. I am also using a 22 10 XOAR Prop. I live at about 3000 foot but corrected alltitude can go anywhere from sea level to 4500. |

SportFlyer- I would guess about 7oz per battery....maybe 5 for the ignition. So maybe extra 10oz in battery, 7oz in engine, 11oz for wing tube, 3 oz for wheel pants, 1 or 2oz for dry tank, and maybe another 4 for servos (I'm running Power HD's at 1.7 oz each, and most other digitals are around 2.2)....total of around 37oz or roughly 2.3lbs give or take. It all adds up pretty close with our measured weights....14.5 plus 2.3=16.8. I'm now pretty sure that the 14.6 lbs stated in the test was not very accurate....given the components chosen. I got really excited when I read that because I thought with very miserly selection of stuff I could get my plane down to the 12 pound range.....which would be a big bonus at my altitude. I bet your plane at sea level flys really close to what mine feels like here.....despite the weight difference. High altitude is a no-win....decent scenery, though. I feel sorry for the plane lovers at 10,000 feet.
Ken6881-I did some reading about IMAC last night here on this site and found out what you just told me. I think I will give it a try.....do you have a good time doing IMAC? I love competitions of most any kind, but this sounds even more interesting. I'm running a Xoar 22-8, but am planning for a 22-10 for more patterny stuff after break in. I really love this plane. How does yours knife edge? Where is your CG? I was pulling to the canopy at 7", but am just barely pulling to the gear at 7 3/4". |

I love IMAC no lie. I competed in one compotetion and cant wait for the next one. I am not sure of my cg I started at 7 in and threw another once on the tail wheel. I am pulling slightly to the canopy but Put very little mixing in and fixed all of that.

Ken6881- Mathematically.....if your ounce of weight was directly on the tailwheel, and your plane weighed 17 pounds.....your new CG would be 7 3/16. I love math!

Ken- Ya, I don't know anymore. Yours could very well be that weight.....but if your components are similar to Sleepy's setup and your weight is true.....then my scale is definitely off. I have a very accurate scale, but it will only read to 5 lbs....and my only way to weigh my plane is to use a digital bathroom scale and weigh myself with and without plane......hardly the best method. My plane is apart right now for a gear repair, so maybe I will try to weigh things individually on the 5lb scale.
Sherman- I think I am going to try the Fort Collins thing. Its a pretty long drive (5-6 hours), but it would be OK to do once in a while. Its not for another 6 weeks, so I am going to have to start practicing the sequence.....after I figure out what it is....lol. |

Well, I couldn't stand not knowing....I weighed everything in small bunches within my small scales capacity.
Here is what I got: Fuselage without canopy 78.4 Canopy 6.8 Tank, Line, and Dot 4.0 Spinner 3.5 Prop 4.1 Cowl 2.5 Ignition, Engine(DL-55)Muffler 58.9 Batteries, EQ's, Ign Kill 10.2 Engine Bolts 2.4 Wing Tube 1.7 Wing Half w/servos 28.4 " " 28.4 Total 229.3 /16 = 14.33 Lbs I would think this is pretty accurate.....but who knows. I came up with 14.5 on the bathroom scale. Not too far off, I guess. |

I started flying the pattern this morning on G4. Ive got the first 6 in memory now, at least. I have a much harder time with the orientation on the sim. If I'm doing 3d up close, its OK.....but when i try things that need more area.....it just seems like I have a lot of trouble with judgment. I really don't notice that with a real plane. Its blowing about 30 mph winds here, so actual flying is out for today.....don't have everything back together anyway. This will be nice to have a real purpose at the field, now.

you will learn to love low rates. I have that is for sure. If you want a place to start with the throws for IMAC you can PM me. The throws make all the difference in the world in how the plane handles

Just flew my Reactor for the first time tonight, AWESOME! This plane tracks well and knife edges like a dream. I just got a couple quick flights in, but when I took the wings off, a wooden dowel fell out of my wing tube. The stock wing tube seems pretty strong, is this needed? Or should I try and glue it back in?
Thanks! |

Get a carbon fiber one from TBM. About $20 and save over 1/2 a pound plus since it's on the CG for the most part you don't have to rebalance.
