Can anyone explane the differance between all the mod#s on the Extra aircraft. What is the aerodynamic differance between all the Extras. Or which one is best?
Extra 260 , 300 and so on. I have a 33% edge now ans Extra300 but am having visions of a new Extra .

Let's see how close I get:
Extra 230 and 260: Mid-wing single seat design, the 230 is similar looking to a Laser and the 260, well we all know what they look like. Extra 300: Mid-wing two-seat development of the 260 Extra 300S: Single-seat version of the 300 with the wing lowered a bit Extra 300L: Similar to the 300, but the wing is lowered even more than the 300S Extra 300SX: Experimental version of the 300S with larger tail surfaces Extra 200: Similar in design to the 300L but with a four-cylinder engine instead of a six-cyliner. Nose is slightly shorter than the 300L Extra 300SP and 300LP: New developments of the 300S and 300L with a new cowl design and other lightening mods to the airframe Extra 300SR: Racing Extra with an Edge-shaped wing used in the Red Bull air races. Hope that helps. |

If you click on any of the colored higlites in this post it will take you to more details of the subject!!!
The Extra Flugzeugbau Extra 300 is an unlimited-level aerobatic two-seat monoplane aircraft. It was designed by Walter Extra, a retired aerobatic pilot, in 1987. The Extra 300 was developed from the early 1980s Extra 230 but the wing is no longer made of wood. The aircraft has a welded steel tube fuselage covered in fiberglass and fabric. The mid-set wing has a carbon fiber composite spar and fiberglass skins. A symmetrical airfoil, mounted with a zero angle of incidence, provides equal performance in both upright and inverted flight. The landing gear is fixed taildragger style with composite main legs and fiberglass wheel pants. The powerplant is a fuel-injected Lycoming AEIO-540 which produces 300 horsepower (224 kW). The Extra 300 is stressed for +/- 10 G with one person on board and +/- 8G with two. Some Extra 300s are registered as Experimental Exhibition aircraft in the U.S., while others are certified in the Aerobatic category[1]. The Extra 300 has given rise to several models: the 300S, 300SH, 300SHP, 330, 300XS, 300L, 300LP, 300SP, and 300SHP.

Most importantly the number stands for the engine's HP. Extra 300 = 300 HP engine.

Brian,
I guess the sentence sound like, Extra 230 with a 260hp AEIO-.540, not that clear is'n it? Anyway in adition to your list there was another Extra made back in early Nineties, Extra 300 Special, it was same as Extra 300 but in single seat configuration, as I understand there was only one made. I got a picture of it from Aero Sport Florida, tey use to be the Extra Importer. Regards, Zee |

Hi Brian,
I don't know who wrote the information, But I just want the people to know that 230 was 4 cyl. I am glad that you posted the Extra info. I think that information like you put out is needed. Not everyone knows where to look it up, including me :-) Thank you, Zee |
