i think i would have to say quique in planes hands down. the most smoothest i've ever seen. and in helis would have to be curtis youngblood, and for the same reason. hands down the smoothest. also i have meet them both and they are the nicest down to earth people in this hobby i've met. they dont walk around with thier heads up thier azz acting like snobbs. but there are very good pilots out there. one of the other best heli pilots i've seen is todd bennett. not shure last name is spelled correct. he wont compete. but if you get a chance to see him fly dont miss it.

IMHO, the best of all time would have to be Hanno Prettner. Without a doubt.
The best present day flier would probably be QQ. Both for his flying skill, and for what he has done for the modeling world. But, in my small world, the guys that would get my vote are the guys that taught me how to fly in the first place. I was a kid, and they took me under their wings and helped get me started. And when my first model (that I had spent most of my summer work money and about 2 months of building time) crashed, one of these guys gave me a plane to continue with. They gave me rides to the distant hobby shop when I needed supplies. Great guys -- I will never forget them. Thanks to all the club instructors everywhere. Bob R.

I have to say Quique. He was one of the first people I met in the hobby, and he took me under his wing and taught me a lot. Not to mention the fact that he's a phenomenal pilot, but a great designer and a great friend. There are however there are many pilots out there that could arguably take the title, and are really nice guys when you really come down to it. Though Hanno dominated everything for such a long time, you have to take into consideration that he dropped out of the scene right around the time turnaround pattern was implemented. The difference in difficulty of turnaround and pre-turnaround patter is substantial. The sequences were not as involved, but the airplanes flew a heck of a lot faster back then. I would loved to have seen him be able to continue flying, to see what he is capable of in modern times. Then you have guys that go back to that era, ie: Chip, Jason, Quique, Matts, CPLR, etc. that are still dominating the scene today with the advent of newer equipment and new schedules that are amazingly more complex. I believe that when you really come down to it, it's really a wash. It just takes one tiny variance in a maneuver to change your placing substantially, not to mention the fact that I'm pretty sure that each of them has beat each other doing the same thing at one time or another. Interesting thread, however. |
