Hanno. No Question. Competition credentials unrivaled in history! When not competing, he "demoed" for Supre Tigre, and the European RC system he was using. He could absolutely wow a crowd.
Now, How about today's stars?? Mark Leesburg is the man, because he is a WORKING stiff!! Not a full time RCer. CPLR is the current worlds best pattern puck for the same reason.. Old Dawg Team Vegas Forever!! |

For the last ten years, I have known many top pilots and learned what it takes to become the best in the world. Ever since 1994, there has been one pilot who has shown me how to train, evolve, and execute a modelers dream. The discipline this man has is the best that I have ever seen. The execution is the best that I have ever seen. The Evolution is the most that anyone will ever see.
Everyone calls him a machine, but he is not. Because a machine couldn't dream of reacting as quickly as him. He puts the model where it needs to be every single time. His father taught him what it takes to become a man who leaves nothing on the table. He will use every single ounce of his competitive nature to beat you. He has only one goal......To do his best every time he goes to the field. If he does his best...he will beat you everytime. I was sitting here talking with a good friend Jay Don Blake, and he and I were talking about Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. Jay Don knows both of these guys very well, especially Jack, and we have come to the conclusion that Tiger's game is better. Everything from mental edge to the players that he is competing against. Tiger has made golf what it is today.....Jack has made Tiger possible for the golfing world. QuiQue and Hanno are very much the same two people. QuiQue made model airplanes what they are today. Granted that there are never just two, but QuiQue is the best. I wish that I could tell you in words what I have learned from this guy, but it is impossible to explain everything. He has done everything that I thought was possible. He is an innovator, a true innovator. He has transcended our sport. He has done this as a modeler and a gentleman. Now he is giving back to the hobby what has given him soo much. Who is the best? A Better question........Who comes close? Mark Leseberg Jr. |

IMO, Hanno is #1
Chip Hyde falls a close second. Hanno, is still a legend and brought RC a long ways. If it weren't for him, we might be developing 3D now. Chip, he has so many wins all over the RC scene that it isn't practical to bring it all up. QQ, while I hear he is a nice guy, and he has the thumbs to prove it, just doesn't have the legendary wins or achievements in RC. Sure, he brought 3D a long ways, but he is certainly not the first to 3D, though many people remember him as such. Leseberg, he's an awsome pilot, but I wish he would do a rolling harrier some time.(45 degree pitch) Leseberg doesn't even come close to the top of all time. Frank Noll is on the same par with QQ IMO. He's been doing 3D as long, and has helped bring this sport to where it is today. Shulman, would be in the top 5 of all time IMO. He is a class act and a fabulous pilot. He doesn't have the credintials for #1 though. Kyle W is another awsome pilot, but is still a baby when it comes to the best of all time, though he and just about everyone else that I've posted about would have a tough time deciding who was the best at this time. Biff, well, he doesn't quite have the skills that the aforementioned guys have, but he has contributed a lot and deserves honorable mention. 50%

Every single comment of late has focused on ONLY 3D flying and/or pattern-aerobatics. This fails to recognize that to be considered the "best" RC pilot of ALL time should involve more than being a really good 3D pilot.
Perhaps the better question for this group is "Who is the best 3D pilot of all time" because that is really the question you all keep answering. |
