Thanks for all the input guys I am really looking forward to getting this plane. I just finished reading all 29 pages of the thread on the 74 with the 46cc. I think I'll be sticking with the 180 for power for now. I do want to keep it as lite as possible and I have been running these Saitos and YS's for a while now and can get them running pretty good. Now I just have to wait on the big truck..........

The plane i built for my buddy started with the 46cc and i felt it was way to heavy. We took the gas engine out and put it in a 88" fun fly wich was perfect. The yak had everything removed from wheel pants, baffle, switches(quick release hatch makes it easy to plug batts) If i remember those plus a few more things took almost a pound off.He had an OS160 that we threw in there and the plane was spot on.He has moved on and now has the 88" EF Yak with DA50 on a pipe
.Good luck and enjoy!

You will love it. Check the incidence between the stabs and the wing and adjust the stabs to 0 relative to each other, and the wing. I have a document specific to that plane if you need it.

I think I have it if it is the one Chris did on checking and adjusting the incidence. If it is something different then I'll take all the info I can get.
Thanks; Tom |

I am putting my 74" together now and do like Andy says. Chris included a sheet as I remember on the incidence and how to check it. Basically level the fuse where the canopy sits and zero out the tail incidence. Not a big deal but mine was off by 2 degrees on one side and about 1 or so on the other. I am seeing a little play in the ball link hardware included with the kit. I have 5945s on the elevator and the gears had a tad of play (they just came back from Hitec with new gears and cases) but with the 1 1/2" arms and the ball links I am seeing like a 1/16th to an 1/8" in play on the surface at rest. I don't think it will be an issue but everything is set for the metric hardware now so I can't easily switch it out. Has anyone else had issues with this? BTW You will love the 1.80 in this. I have a new pumped 1.60 going in mine and can't wait...

ground pounder is right. the ef 74 yak flys so much better with a glow engine because you keep the weight down.
i think ours came in around 12-12.5lbs with the brillelli's. flew good, but when you get your hands on one thats 10lbs its just that much more sweet. saw 'pounder's' 110 fly sunday, all i can say is wow. its a freakin monster. he only put five flights on it, so i'm guessing after about 200 he'll let me have a pull on it. (hint,hint.). |

Thats the document. Its easy to do and it will transform a so-so plane into the one Chris designed.

How cool is that. My first crack at starting a thread and it gets highjacked. I am honored and humbled. Thanks guys. By the way I just got the tracking number and it will be in the hands of UPS until the 9th. That means they will have it for 7 whole days. This is a pic of my last UPS delivery. It was followed by a FedEx delivery. As you can see the UPS guy couldn't even hit the FRAGILE sticker. When the FedEx guy ran his fork through the box for my Velox he missed the plane completely. The UPS guy got the wing and stab.

Matt lets get something straight here, This plane is not a toy...ok? It comes with a 67 page instruction manual. I've read it, have you? No, I don't think so. Now when Bill offered me a pull on the 110EF with the Badd Ass piped DA85 with balistic power and full 3D capibility he knew what the heck he was doing. You see my boy, Bill has the talent in knowing full well who is and who is not quailfied to ring out the new bird. *(Can't continue, laughing too hard) Matt, your the dope! See you guys when I get back from the FOF in Fla. Bender

I should have taken a pic of my last UPS delivery, it was a prop from DA, the box had actually been torn in half and they taped it back together.... luckily they didn't get the prop itself somehow. |

OK the Yak got here today. One day early and no box damage. I can't believe it. Anyway I opened it up to inspect everything and it all looks good. The landing gear and wing tubes had broken loose and were rolling around in the fuse compartment but I didn't see any damage. It was too cold in the shop to get into a real close look but man oh man. Even though I have been flying these things for almost 50 years I have to admit this is the biggest plane I have ever put together. I can't wait. Also scored a cf landing gear which also got here today, thanks Mike, and I mailed off a money order today for a heck of a deal on 4 5945's. So all I need now is a rudder servo. I never keep track of the money I spend on a plane. It's too scarey for one thing and a plane needs what it needs, that's all there is to it. But all the money I have been saving for my new gasser is now gone. Gone in a matter of a week.
That's the only reason I know how much mulla is going into this beauty. But that's fine, I'll just start over again. In the mean time I will be learning more about setting these beasts up. I have learned a lot with my Velox. I takes a lot of flights to get these things the way you want them. And each one is a new challenge. This "high-alpha" stuff is sure a different ball game. I can't believe where I've got my cg's now But this old dog is ready to learn the new tricks. Oh and the pictures of the black and yellow sceem don't do it justice. It is just cool. All most mean looking. I like it. Anyway, I'll get some pictures when I get around to building a fire and getting busy. If anyone wants a build thread let me know. It will be set up like this:Saito 180 Hitec 5945's on elevators and ailerons ???? on rudder Futaba 8U super and what not 2000mah rx And who knows what Great day today!! Tom |
