if you havent decided yet. PAUs 43% edge is a great choice. Dont let people tell you that edges cant fly imac. This plane is a solid flyer, and travks just as good or even better than some extra/yaks. IT will fly awsome with a DS 150, and maybe even better with a DA 170. hardware is phenominal. just give it a look.

I have seen more QQ planes at IMAC meets than any other plane. I always hated the circus colors on the but the new Kimball scheme is a big improvement. IMO! I am told they fly very neutral and very little mixing is needed!! I would say it is an awesome choice.

How about the 41% Wild Hare Extra 300 ? They are pritty cheap and most of the work is already done for you. Or maybe even a 2nd hand Comp ARF, I have a second hand 2.6m Comp ARF Extra (5 years old) as well as a brand new 3.0m Comp ARF Yak (2 months old) and the Extra flys just as good as the yak.

hey, i wish i had more experience with this model but i'll throw it out there anyway....

for the $$$ i think you'll find it tough to beat the new AIRWILD Sukhoi 40%. i have one and i got her finished very quickly and easily. i, however, found snow on the ground before i could get her in the air!!!!!! not gonna happen until spring now! BUMMER!

when it comes to hardware you'll never find a better arf than this one. all of the hardware is good Airwild stuff. it even comes with their jumbo airwild wing pack wing bags! they are well over $100 alone! this plane at the $1399 is a steal! go to the site and watch the szueber boys demo it in the video. it seems to fly wonderfully!

the other nice part is that you won't just have a cookie cutter plane at the field. i always like something a little bit different. believe me, i am not trying to denounce any of the choices you have before you.... i am just excited about my sukhoi so i thought i'd throw it out there....

good luck and happy flying!

matt

The only Carden Yaks I have seen done right is the two orange and purple scheme planes from the Illinois boys..and one of them flies at my club..the other one I understand got rekitted...and the Yak that John Bradley owns. This is not to bash Carden as I love the Extra...but they should have done a little more to make the Yak..
Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the fuse sides were flat on a full scale yak? My Quique Yak has a round fuse in front of the canopy....

And the thing is too, a truly scale looking airplane isn't going to fly very well at all model wise. Weights and such are so different, they affect placement, and shape of almost every wing/surface on the airplane.

Not trying to argue or anything, just trying to clarify what you are talking about.

Having flown a 35% Carden 330, yeah the custom planes ARE awesome but heck the difference when it comes to performance between the Carden and my AW Extra really wasn't that big.. Don't know if it's enough to justify difference in cost.

Plus it's nice to know you can have a new one on your doorstep in a week should something go wrong.

Just my $.02.

Hey Illusion,

My vote is for either of the Aeroworks planes. I have 190 flights on my AW Yak 54 now and I can say that I have no regrets. It is heavier than the 260, but with some effort it can easily be brought in the 39.5 lbs range. For IMAC the plane is great. It tracks extremely well, snaps well, and handles bumpy air very well. For the landing gear, I will say that I have no worries about the 2 piece gear. They haven't given me a single problem. When it comes to 3D the Yak is a little longer than the 260 which makes it a little less nimble but at the same time it appears very graceful. Rolling harriers are extremely easy and hi-alpha knife edge is very predictable.

Quality wise you can't beat this plane. At 190 flights this plane looks better than any of the QQ planes that I have seen with 20 flights. This is not to bash how the QQ planes fly, but their manufacturing and fit and finish are no where near the quality of the AW planes.

In comparing the AW Yak with their 260: I have flown Bodywerks 260, that he did a bit of work lightening work on, at the Tucson IMAC contest. I had a servo go just before my last 2 rounds on Sunday and had to fly his plane without ever flying it before. I maged to win the unknown round and the contest flying the 260. With the Yak I was able to take 1st in 6 contests in 2008 and won the SW 2008 Sportman ragional points as well as the regional contest. Below are a couple videos of me flying the yak.

This is with a DA 150 on standard mufflers.

Here is some IMAC practice.
