I'll take a light airframe any day over a heavier one. It's easier to add weight if needed
then remove it.. |

It does seem odd though to hear someone say they designed an RC plane too light...

Just wondering..........What is the ideal weight for a 50cc plane?? Is there a "magic" weight that the plane will be good for 3D and still Imac ok? I'm talking about a 50cc with a DA 50 in it. Thanks

I really do not think it is too light. I think it is perfect! For the first two flights on mine were in 10-15mph winds and it handled great. When I bought mine I had read people saying that you cannot stall this thing and they were right. I think I could walk faster than this thing lands.

I wouldn't say too light, but I would say the wing area and wing design are so compatible that combined with the way the tail is situated on the fuselage eveything comes together to make for a plane that is easy to fly and well balanced in control harmony.
I don't have the 88" but I do have the 84" and 102.5 " W/H Edges and they both fly exceptionally well. Having had both v1 and v2 versions of the 84" Edge it's quite easy to discern the differences in weight and performance between the original and later airframes. Of course the 102 beats the daylights out of the 84" but that the way it would always go with large over small. It's hard to get into trouble with either one. You have to try to do so and even then it's easy to get out of a tricky situation. Regarding that muffler thing. Get rid of the muffler gasket and use Permatex Ultracopper as a gasket sealer. Use red Locktite on the muffler screws ond make a support strap to brace the outside of the muffler on the unsupported end. It will stay on forever that way. The falling off problem starts at the muffler gasket and is accelerated by a lack of muffler support. |

Thanks for the suggestion T.O.M . I am moving to a camister setup for two reasons. The first being that club members are starting to make sound levels a reals issue. The other reason being that the way I have mine setup it will also make it easier to maove the cg aft. My first flight the plane seemed nose heavy. Half way through the second flight ( when i lost the muffler) the plane flew much better. So I will have the best of both worlds by running the cannister.

Just curious for those who have built this bird, how did you run the aileron leads into the fuse? There is no location to run them through the fuselage walls..
Did you just drill a hole and run them through there? |

Those big flat things that came with the plane will be necessary to control the plane. It will probably get airborne without the wings but will be hard to keep it in the air.

It looks great Jeff (or at least it did before the pictured dropped out???).
Are you taking this plane to SEFF? I look forward to seeing some good video of it. That Neu motor is a beast! |
