Can anyone please comment on this?

Little progress at the moment. I drilled 6 extra holes in the fuse and 4 extra in the bottom of the motor dome. It is still very stiff, so I don't expect problems there. Now glued a 3mm plywood (?) firewall and measured whether the motor will fit under the cowl. The firewall will get CF covering + some bolts through it.

Today I also checked how the new CF prop (22x12) fits on the motor. Apparently this size is the most powerful on the ZG74, we'll see. Hope to mount the motor to the firewall in a couple of days.

I also bought a new Funtana 2x2m which has been build but not finished completely yet. Here are some pictures, also see the laptop and a 915mm span Great Planes Flatana for size reference. I used to fly foamies a lot in that size, looks like a very small toy next to the 2m Funtana and 2,5m Laser.

How many degrees side and down thrust should I put in? I don't have the plans, can I get a copy from someone? I read on a forum (not sure which) that someone used one degree down and one degree right, but he was going to take out the down thrust. If I look at the plans of the Funtana, it says 3,5 degrees, which looks a lot more than the one degree mentioned above.

Looking forward to good advice.

Thanks, hope to hear more suggestions...

The prop size should be the most powerful one for this engine, it is recommended in the original manual. Do you have the plans in digital format? If so, could you please send me a copy?

Last night I found out that the engine would not fit under the cowl with the build up motor dome. It needed to be another 2cm shorter. So I removed another 100 grams of heavy wood (see picture 1 and 2). The new firewall will get Carbon Fiber cloth with epoxy and those triangle shaped wooden reinforcements on the inside.

Furthermore I have worked on the Balsa tunnel for the tuned pipe. Hope to get more done tonight.

Tonight I got the motor on the firewall. It needs 1 more shim to get it to about 3 degrees and to get the prop in the middle of the cowl. Since I need to take the motor off in order to glass + Carbon Fiber the firewall, I couldn't be bothered and was happy to finally see a motor on the Laser.

Furthermore have made some bubble wrap covers for the prop, did some horizontal reinforcements of the fuse and I have sanded the repairs that I did on the cowl. Since the cowl is a lot stiffer now, I found out that it will not be possible to get it over the motor in one piece, so I will have to cut it in half to get a top and bottom side.

I'm thinking that prop is gonna look dang good on that plane

To look at my planes ya wouldn't know it but I like what looks good to me and and am willing to lose a little on the flying side to get it sometimes. For instance I don't really care about how loud a prop is or if I lose a little power but I like 3 blade props. BIG ones ! Kind of wish Vess would come out with something for a 50cc. And painted black.

I've got and old Laser in the basement (30%) and I'm wishing I could get it stripped and recovered myself.

Thanks guys!

That prop definitely looks great!! I am not too worried about the performance, should be more than enough for this plane. Besides that, Toni Clark recommended this size 3-blade for best performance with this engine, looking at their experience with the ZG engines I am not going to doubt their recommendation

In Holland we do need to look at minimizing noise though, a lot of flying clubs have noise restrictions, apparently at some fields you can't even fly gas/nitro anymore.

We'll see how the noise level turns out.

The shop in Germany that I bought my prop from also sells the same 3-blade CF prop in size 20x12, for 40-50cc engines. They are not very expensive and sell CF spinners and Landing Gears as well through Ebay. Not sure about shipping to the US, but combining some items in one package and with the current Dollar-Euro rate it may well be interesting for you. I can send you more details of the shop in a PM if you want.
