Default My Carden Midair Today

OK this was how my Madden flight went I took it off and went great on the first flight. This was my first time to fly something big it was great. Then came down after about 8 minutes of flying to check everything out. All looked good so I took off again then started to turn and herd a sound like bomb going off and it looked like something went through the prop. Then my dad said o my God you just ran into each other. So I continued down wind and turn final and saw the plane was shaking badly so I shut the engine down the prop was shredded but the engine continued to run. The gear from the other guys plane went through the wing of my plane. So here are some pics I almost positive I have to build a new wing but feel free to give me some input if you think it can be repaired.

OMG! Thank god that's all it did! Any damage to the fuse, or was that "it"? I know it sucks, I'm glad to hear you were able to bring it in! Congrats! Any motorbox damage? I've seen 'em literally split in two when a blade off a 3 blade prop flew off.

It was a 40 size biplane it got ate up and spit out. The fuselage is broken on the right side of the Carden and the motor mount has to be redone I don't know how it stayed together I am very very lucky the engine did not come off. Not worried about that stuff I can do that it is the wing that worries me. Jeeum give me some help on fixing this wing with out having to build another I am worried about having the wings structural integrity compromised.

C'mon! That's nothing you can't repair. Do you have any pics of the other plane?

You got lucky man!!! Call Dennis and get another wing, you could fix that one, but why bother, and you might end up with a heavier wing on one side, and that's not good. How did the motor stay on?? Amazing, Carden's are one tough airplane for sure. I put one in the back of a guy's truck once, didn't survive too good, but it was cool.

Easy fix guys. Cut out the damaged foam at an angle to the wing tube. Cut the balsa back about 3 more inchs. All cuts need to be 45 degrees to the tube . Fit a piece of new foam into the cut and work it into shape to fit the airfoil , use poly glue. Next is the wood , fit it in nice . No gaps at all or you will see it later. Dont use any poly glue or ca, you cant sand it . Use white or yellow glue. You can also cut the covering back and tape it out the way for reuse later.

There was a fix on RCU on a giles doing the exact same thing but not as bad. It looked like it came out just as new!

Mikey, first of all I feel your pain! What I'm most impressed about is you handling the accident as just that, an accident! Too many times we get carried away with the other guy. It's ALWAYS a .40 size plane that tries to share our airspace. You sir have just acheived major respect in my book. Mighty glad you're a Flying Giants member!!
