Progress!

All control surfaces are done and hanging on the fuse. 14 hour day in the gayraage!

Took a break long enough to give the girls a formal arse whoopin in Monopoly.

Tomorrow I aim to have it done with a maiden as soon as the weather breaks. This is my biggest 3D plane so far and she's a big ol betty to me. Pretty cool.

One question:

For dual servo ailerons should I "broaden" the center window on the servos? I was wondering about this as I assume they'll fight one another and suck the batteries if they aren't exactly centered in relation to one another.

My procedure so far was to program each servo with it's arm exactly 90* from the body and then set the end points just past the fullest throw on the control surfaces. I figured I'd just dial the rest with the radio (12x JR)

Is there a better way?

Thanks!

What servos are you running Chad? The trick is to make sure each of the servos are centered, as well as have the same sweep in each direction. From there, set one horn height to achieve your desired throw. Then adjust the second horns height to match that throw. With the same sweep on each servo, and the linkage/horn heights creating the same amount of movement, you will have minimized binding through out the entire range of movement, and not just the endpoints. I have seen a lot of guys make the mistake of just programming the end points with a matchox, servo programmer, etc so that just the throw end points match up, and the dont pay attention to actually setting up the linkage correctly. When they do that, the end points at max throw may not bind, but everywhere in between does because your servos may or may not be traveling the same amount of rotation for a given throw because each linkage is different.

John spelled it out perfectly. It takes a little while to do, but is worth it. I have always set up my planes so that mechanically there is no binding. The part about setting the control horn is very important.

Using Hi Tech 5645MG's on all surfaces. Pretty sure the binding concern is resolved as everything seems to move freely.

This H-9 SU 31 was completely recovered with monokote and Painted with Automotive paint from the start, In the RWB Russian Aerobatic Scheme By a very good friend of mine. After he flew it a couple years, I picked it up from him and flew it until I sold it to Chad last month. My friend and I really hated to see this happen with such a beautifully redone aircraft. My friend and I never could find the expiration date on this one but it didn't take nes long to find it, to bad this was an awesome flying machine with the DA 100 up front.

Jerry, I've seen you fly Mr. "Well, lets just see how many wing ribs I can split today. . ."

J/K.

This plane was awesome, I guess she just couldn't take that much left stick in her.

Oh wells, the Aeroworks Yak is all done and runs like a watch so my mourning period is over.

See ya in March Jerry, I'm only gone for two months this time! Woo Hoos!
